Poilievre accuses Liberals of adding a 2nd "carbon tax" during question period

During Wednesday's session of question period in the House of Commons, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre slammed the Liberals for not only increasing their carbon pricing scheme, but introducing a second "carbon tax."
While the leader of the official opposition voiced his concerns that this will make life less affordable for Canadians, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland responded by asking, "What is his plan?" and concluded that it would amount to service cuts.
Plus, Poilievre asked how much this new fee would cost Canadians. Freeland did not directly respond, but instead said a plan to build a clean economy "of the future" creates jobs.

Freeland is so full of herself. She talks about one family. I am glad everything is working out so wonderful for them. What about the rest of us Canadians? I cringe everytime Freeland stands up to speak. The tone of her voice, the way she looks down her nose at everybody, scrunching her face showing disapproval, her put downs towards Pierre and the rest of the conservatives and she doesn't even answer the question. She talks the talk (sort of), yet doesn't walk the walk. I feel Freeland is a waste of taxpayer's money. I am sure we would be better off without her. Take her off of the budget.

On the contrast pierre is capable of providing detailed and direct answers to questions by media and opposition. @@osmosis321 -- the wef is a sort of consortium of leaders of very large corporations, very wealthy ppl and politicians who want to be near them. the aim of the WEF is almost entirely about preserving and increasing their wealth and power and control. they do this by latching onto issues they believe the middle class are concerned about - and sometimes they will push concerns onto the middle class. when an issue is latched onto or pushed by legacy, corporate and state media.... this opens global markets for them to pursue and profit - all in the false pretense of doing good for the world and human kind.... when in fact it is quite the opposite.

It's the same stuff they pump into green houses to make plants grow faster and partly why the earth is greener today than it was 50 years ago. I like clean air and reducing _actual_ pollution but I'm not willing to throw science (and the poor) under the bus when CO2 is no more a pollutant than oxygen. The only reason it's called "carbon pollution" is to fool children and the uninformed into thinking it's dirty and toxic to demonize and tax it.

I just looked at my DIRECT ENERGY BILL. I really cant stand any of them. The Federal carbon tax is $66.41 (which is a strange number being 66). Also, when I did the calculation of rider taxes.... These taxes add up to 75% of my bill and the rest is the use of gas of $79.19. Most of DIRECT ENERGY employees seem to work in Guatemala. Thus this corporation is not supporting Canadian jobs. I believe there may be less than 6 employees perhaps in Alberta. A couple employees might be in Calgary and a few in Edmonton? This is disgraceful.

what was the total bill 79.19 plus 66.41 and at 75 percent the rider would be 109.2 which according to my calculation would put your bill somewhere over 250 dollars the way you explained it. if that is the case and you are paying for that a month it shows how much people are being ripped off.

I don’t try, I simply state facts; the planet has undergone wild swings in climate and these are mapped by research. We can and will continue to work toward harm reduction, but using a tax to do that is counter-productive.

@@togethermutiny Actually the tax is the most effective tool we have, short of directly limiting consumption, that's why we use it. And no, what's happening with the climate is not a "breathing cycle" it's human caused and it's happening too fast for the biosphere to adapt to it. What happens next if we don't act is wholesale collapse of entire ecosystems and the extinction of our species, among many others This isn't debatable anymore, it's a matter of scientific fact.

Non of us should forget the warning Steven Harper gave us in the 2015 election debate...the carbon tax is not an environmental policy..its a revenue policy. Thats not the only honest and correct warning he made back then....but said Trudeau " didnt know what he was talking about "on economic policy and budgetting. Remember that Harper was equipped with a Masters Degree in Economics which is why his economic policies served us well especially during the GREAT RECESSION that hit the USA far worse than Canada.

Wow. Does anyone see how badly this will affect our economy?! It will be too expensive for companies to operate here. Why wouldn’t they go elsewhere to maximize their profits? Food is going to skyrocket again, and not come back down. Everything will go up in price yet again. The consumer always loses.
