The embattled leader of the Green Party, Annamie Paul, has reportedly lost two key staffers amid a string of internal controversies within the party.
Facing a non-confidence vote, and the impending federal election, Paul needs all the support she can get.
With climate change top of mind for Canadians, the Green Party is losing momentum at a time when it should be shining. Ross Lord reports on the growing threats to the Green Party's success.

She doesn't seem to have the temperament. Listening to her interview shows that. She sounded like someone you wouldn't want to work for. It's not about race it's individual's personality

@Amerigo Vespucci Here Here, but I would take it one step further. Her attitude is not Green. she made it about herself instead of the party. She called out party members, that actually supporter her, because now they are questioning her handling of internal affairs. Secondly, she was trying to win a riding that is virtually 70% Liberal, the amount of resources that she will want the party to commit to, in order to win that seat will be enormous. There is so much about Annamie Paul that turns people off, but going to the Media and virtually telling the World that members of the Green Party of Canada, are racist, sexist and antiSemitic well, that just about puts the nail in the coffin for Green Supporters. She tried to kill the party to save herself and enough is enough. If the Green Party doesn't remove her, or she resigns, it will be over for the. I for sure will not give a cent, especially when there are alternatives.

@@tonespeaks As an American observer The whole situation makes me very sad. Sad because her win as party leader was historic so naturally you want it to work. And then that scandal happens and it becomes unclear what a vote for the Green party is actually going to get you. And I know a lot of the stuff they say about Miss Paul (Not regarding the scandal) is stuff they used to say about Elizabeth May, but one thing that can be said about Miss May that unfortunately cannot be said about Miss Paul is that under Elizabeth May there was consistency. It was clear what the party platform was, it was clear what you would get from a green MP if elected, And it was clear what was or wasn’t acceptable per party standards. Under Miss Paul, it seems to depend on who you talk to. And while it is true (Without question) that persons of color are held to a different standard than the rest of us, I seem to remember internal disagreement amongst the democratic party with President Obama when he supported The transpacific partnership. Wile his support for it put him on the losing side of history, he managed to handle the situation with a greater sense of dignity and control than Miss Paul is. Also the sudden cancellation of the confidence vote seems rather suspicious, particularly from a party that prides itself on its internal democratic process. And I don’t enjoy saying that.

So, the Green Party is more successful in Europe… but in North America where we don’t cobble together large coalition governments, a party which focuses on a single theme or platform is doomed. Yeah, the Greens have a position for every gov portfolio but still a single platform. Their leader decided to go all in and run in a riding that was extremely difficult for her to win….in Ontario and not in BC….so really a naive tactical mistake… with a minority gov and not being elected during a pandemic…it takes the right person to stay relevant

Paul should go. That she would allow staffers to threaten sitting Green MPs because of their support for Gazans, of all things, speaks to her failure as a leader. She seems to have forgotten that the Green Party is a party focused on environmental concerns - not about Palestinian issues.
