Canada's House of Commons returned for its first seating since the summer break, with the Conservative Party's Pierre Poilievre appearing in his first session of question period as the new official opposition leader.
"Canadians have had the costs they must pay for monthly housing bills go from 32 per cent of their paycheque to 50 per cent of their paycheque. And what's the prime minister's solution? To reduce their paycheques by taking a bigger bite out of them with higher payroll taxes, and he wants to raise gas taxes, home heating taxes, and indirectly grocery prices by tripling the carbon tax," Poilievre said during the session.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was not in attendance for Tuesday's sitting because he was in New York City for the start of the leader-level debates at the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations tackling climate change, gender equality and sustainable development.
The first pieces of legislation tabled by the government in the fall session are expected to be a proposal doubling the GST tax credit for low-income Canadians, and creating a new dental benefit for children under 12 in families making less than $90,000 a year.

_The liberals will break your leg, then give you a cast and say, “see, if we didn’t help you, how would you walk?”_ The CURRENT Liberals certainly will. But the Liberals under Chretien and Martin were actually fiscally prudent, and got the nation's finances under control, eventually posting budget surpluses and reducing the national debt. Whatever happened to those Liberals? Why are Chretien and Martin silent on Trudeau destroying their legacy?

How did the liberal metaphorically break your leg? If you say stimulus checks that caused inflation I would like to remind you how the checks were 2 years ago and that the inflation only started to have effects just a few weeks after Putin invaded Ukraine. It’s almost like Russia and Ukraine are big wheat and gas providers and a conflict between the two affected supply lines for the world, must be a crazy coincidence since apparently it’s all Trudeau fault. Trudeau sucks I’ll give you that but to blame evything on him is disingenuous.
