And the funny thing is about 60% of covid cases are asymptomatic so plenty of people who get it are absolutely fine, unfortunately seniors tend to see the most fatalities from Covid. The funniest part is that all the people on that cruise you write about will later be immune to it and have no worries at all. Everyone who doesn't want to quarantine are probably lined up at a food bank because $2000 ain't gonna cut it. Everyone who's advocating to stay at home are mostly unaffected. You have to see it from both sides. I myself am totally unaffected, myself in the military and my wife being a nurse, we still have our complete income. But my brother who lives on his own in the city of Toronto who lost his job and his rent is $2300 a month. So how is $2000 a month going to cut it? The cerb can't even cover his rent, let alone car payments, phone, and food. As of now the only plan going forward is we will not re open or relax the restrictions until there is a vaccine, guess what? There's no certainty a vaccine will ever be found. So are we to just sit at home and rot? Domestic violence is on the rise, alchohol/drug abuse is on the rise. The states are saying the earliest possible vaccine would only be found as early as next winter. If people want to protest I'm all for it, just do it safe and stay 6 ft apart. There's plenty of other people in his situation and or worse.

Yes many people are even more at risk during this time for spousal abuse, suicide, child abuse, alcohol and drug abuse- these factors have always been an issue and it is a community problem that should be taken care of in every level of government. We need resources in place to help victims of abuse get away from their abusers. We need resources in place to assist self-medicating persons get the mental health care they need. We need safeguards to prevent homelessness resulting from any of these above situations and from unemployment. Many of these are issues due to a capitalizing of what is meant to be "human rights" and have been converted into businesses. None of these would disappear or be resolved if people "went back to work" - as they have also existed before the pandemic. The problem lies within the current system. Taxation breaks and unfair billion-dollar business subsidies are what are causing these gaping cracks I mentioned. The "vulnerable" you mention about still being able to quarantine are then left to fall into these cracks of this system regardless. The remaining "98% of the population who experience nothing more than cough and sore throat" is not how community immunity works either. You'd be well-learned to realize that the reason this is such an abhorrent idea is that viruses mutate every single time they replicate in our cells. These mutations are often small and don't amount to much, but a generation to a virus is about 24-72hrs. Enough mutations taking place in people who experience "only a cough and sore throat" are vectors allow the virus to mutate new strains. If this trend is allowed to happen long enough, mutations become stronger and suddenly those who were not considered vulnerable are now at risk. Polio, Measles, H1N1, SARS, etc all began this way. These viruses affected only a small niche of immunocompromised people until suddenly it was strong enough to infect and kill people who were considered much healthier than the initial victims. As we don not have a vaccine ready at this time (projected another 12 months until the current ones being tested are ready to the public) we need to give the virus absolutely no access to anyone, currently labelled as "vulnerable" or not, to prevent mutations. As it is now, a vaccine is being formulated for the /current/ strains - what use will it be if the virus is allowed to mutate so entirely that it no longer is prevented by the vaccine by the time it is ready for the population? Another vaccine will have to be created and that's at the very least 14 months of waiting again. So the question really is: will you take responsibility for the further millions of deaths a virus is capable of causing through basic cellular biology when we ignore it and "go back to work"? Instead, be productive and demand better resources for all citizens, including yourself.

The most affected are statistically over 65, and people as young as 21 have died due to the complications surrounding the virus. It's not like all other forms of injury, illness, or condition are put on hold while a pandemic is going on, or is that what you subconsciously assumed? We do not have the capacity to care for them and the current -27,601- active cases dealing with this illness. The difference between these protesters and public workers, is that the public workers are trying to provide services so that we can still get our food and sanitary products. Do you own a farm? Do you know how to knit? If you would like to fully quarantine yourself and live off the land, you have the full right to do so. There indeed is still a risk in these public places, which is why social distancing and shop capacity as well as PPE supply for employees is being observed. As for protesters? They are attempting to change that. These protesters want the public all back to work and running as usual and that is what makes them a public health threat. You may want to research what happens to a virus when it is allowed to reach more hosts in order to mutate; I've written a scenario for this in another reply, if you don't care to google. This is what that risk is. At first, immunocompromised and elderly are the vulnerable, but mutation makes a virus strain deviate into something stronger that will cause more and more "healthy" people in a population to become ill, and eventually younger and younger people will being to die. We must demand not to "go back to work" but for our systems to stop leaving those affected by financial hardship, spousal or child abuse, substance abuse, and homelessness out. protection and resources have always been required for these groups to be helped, and simply ignoring them in "normalcy" does not make it go away. These protesters aren't protesting for human rights to be observed (the right to shelter, food, healthcare, etc) as they should be- as we should all be. They are attacking the wrong thing, and these same people you are talking about those suffering from unemployment resulting in suicide, depression etc are all of us. If our current system didn't care about them before (it didn't) it won't care about them after. Nobody should be treated as a unit of productivity and thrown to the streets due to hardship. Capitalizing on human rights was never the right answer.

considering over 90% of the people who ever require a ventilator are already in a long term care home, I highly doubt there are many at the protest who would ever shows symptoms let alone ever need a ventilator. Facts matter....fear mongering media doesn't emphasize the facts.

Look no further than the US to see how quickly complacency can backfire in this situation. Influenza is a known risk with a vaccine. Its spread is controlled thanks the good people that actually opt to get their flu vaccine every fall. People who think they're too smart to get vaccinated are the reason that the flu continues to kill as many people as it does. But at the very least it doesn't overcrowd our ICUs and force physicians to decide who lives and who dies. Imagine the doctors in spain, having to give their ventilators to healthy 40 year olds while basically letting people who could be their parents or grandparent die. Ignoring the virus and throwing our most vulnerable to the wolves is irresponsible and downright evil.

I used the US and Spain as an example of a country taking social distancing legislation lightly to demonstrate the consequence of those actions and show you and others that this not a virus to be taken lightly.

the main issue is that these people will get themselves sick and get others sick, leading to more people in already busy hospitals increasing the chance of getting our healthcare workers sick. Then boom less health care workers for a population with increasing amounts of cases
