The provincial government announced a $4 per hour raise over the next four months for front-line workers who are helping fight COVID-19.
Workers will also receive a monthly bonus of $250 if they work more than 100 hours in a month over the next four months.
The premier said the bonus will be eligible for workers with long-term care homes, retirement homes, emergency shelters, supportive housing, social services congregate care settings, corrections institutions and youth justice facilities, home and community care providers and some staff in hospitals.
Ford announced the new measures while admonishing protesters who gathered outside the provincial legislature in defiance of emergency orders.
He said the actions of the protesters could set healthcare workers back by months, and said many of those workers are at multiple hospitals just down the street from the protest site.

Why are our long term care homes often run by for profit corp, they underpay the employees and supply less than acceptable care for the elderly, I swore years ago that my parents would never go to one, one of the reasons so many died is because the patients were pretty much crammed into the wards, the government pays out more for convicted criminals than they spend on the elderly. My husband worked in one in the 1960s, he left because he couldn't stand how they were treated, and in fifty years it has not changed, every elderly person that I know that has gone into care has been pretty much of a nightmare for their families. Are we going to fix this or just wait for the next pandemic to take care of the overcrowding?

Everybody earning an income of $100,000 and above should be paying a higher income tax to offer a balance support for payments to cover payments handed out by governments. Implement Universal Basic Income ($2,000/month/person) with no restrictions on net income qualification. Abolish social welfare permanently, give everybody $2,000 each month so everyone gets finally a "decent living wage" in current economics (high rent, food costs)

Your hospitals and long term care homes are understaffed because 15 years ago a high school student going into a long term care home part time making beds was getting what your paying people to work full time now. Fact of it is Ontario needs to learn that our health care (including long term care) mess is because greedy people are cheaping out on wages. Plus we gave our health care cuts when we should of been investing in it so our capacity could handle more.

Uhhh, Mr. Ford $4 extra can't keep anyone. First of all if you wanna keep frontline staff in the LTC homes the increase needs to be at least $10 hour or more. Why is it that in the Ministry Homes, RPNs make at least $30 per hour or more, RNs at least $35 or more and PSWs at least $25 or more depending on their seniority but if you work in a "private LTC homes it is "much less" for these workers for doing the same work?! This sector needs to bring all nurses', Psws' up to the wage as their counterparts in the Ministry Homes. In alot of LTC homes you have 1 nurse to 28 -30 residents plus 2 1/2 Psws' some other homes may have 2 nurses to 50 residents' and maybe 3-4 Psws'! The work we do is so vital and we are putting ourselves and families at HIGH risk! Mr. Ford please increase this more! Ontairo can afford it and it should'nt be TEMPORARILY !!!

I find the idea of car manufacturers wanting workers to return to work to be an extremely bad idea. My girlfriend use to work at an automotive factory and common colds spread like wildfire there due to how many people work inside a factory. New cars aren't essential. This should be stopped from even happening. If they fire up our numbers could increase for infections.

Canadians sit bye quietly and let their governments' horrific mistakes directly cause the mass death of their parents and grandparents and can't see with their own eyes that the 2,500 deaths in Canada are mostly due to institutional abandonment of the elderly, in Quebec 9,500 healthcare workers abandoned their jobs terrified of pandemic and 850 elderly people died of neglect...there is no pandemic in Canada...when you back out the elderly deaths cause by governments panicking healthcare workers into abandoning their patients...there isn't even a flu season that's data worthy... there are only governments too shocked and scared to admit their mistake and a press too lame to report facts....people are asleep as their parents and grandparents were being institutionally euthanized

Michel Villeneuve: The solution to your dilemma is simple...after completing high school with a top grade average just spend another 10 to16 years in school, at virtually no pay, and then sit and pass the most difficult exam on the planet to become a doctor and you too can earn a bigger paycheque. You just have to work for it!! And btw, if you’re currently a grocery store clerk you can still work your way up to a $100,000 salary by becoming a dept manager, then a store manager, and then a franchise owner. It will still take years of learning and you will still have to WORK for it, but unlike medical students, you’ll be paid every step of the way.

He should implement the Universal Basic Income Benefit where $2,000 per person is distributed every month regardless of employment status. Ontario should be the first province in Canada to abolish poverty, and homelessness. This would eliminate the need for social welfare and housing projects in Ontario communities. Everybody will be able to afford a decent apartment suitable to their marital status and number of children dependent on them.

Ford once again stressed people remain home and only go out for essential needs such as groceries, warning the public that if preventative measures are not taken seriously, the province will be in serious trouble. “What is the cost of a life? Is a life worth a picnic in the park? Is the life worth going to the beach? Is a life worth a few cold ones with your buddies in in the basement?” Ford said. “The answer is no. None of those things are worth a life.” “I know how difficult it is, but please stay home. Help us write an ending to our story that our future generations can look back on and be proud of.”.................NAZI
