Calgary water supply levels reach critical state following feeder main break

The City of Calgary has activated its Municipal Emergency Plan on Thursday as the fallout from a water main break the night before continued to escalate.
The break occurred in a key water supply pipe that carries water across the city and crews have narrowed down the location of the break, city officials said during a news conference on Thursday.
Crews are working “around the clock” to repair the feeder main, which is a large artery to move drinking water across the city and beyond. The Bearspaw South feeder main serves 1.2 million Calgarians, as well as regional customers in Airdrie, Chestermere and Strathmore.
Officials said that crews will determine a plan for repairs once they are able to see the size of the water main break and what needs to be replaced. However, they couldn’t give a timeline of when repairs will be finished because of how “dynamic” the situation is.
Contingency plans are in place in case the situation worsens.

The experts noted that the max size is 2m, so I'm unsure what truck she's talking about that could fit in a 6.5' diameter pipe. And the 'thin blue line' rationale disavows community based policing in favour of 'garrison' style policing, which most modern police forces have been moving away from for decades.

HOWEVER, what you're telling me is that regardless of your perspective on it... it's still relevant to the job, so having it on a uniform is still applicable. Whereas pride colors or any social justice movement symbolism has literally nothing to do with this woman, or any other professional in that departments, job/career. It's a feeder main and likely as old as Bowness itself. Pipes burst all the time and there are far to many to upgrade constantly without breaking the bank. It's hard, long work that often requires the water to be turned off while they work which then causes every karen in the area to whine and harass trades workers who fix it.

@@ye333 the water is there,!currently - AB is under drought conditions. Oil production and moving oil in pipelines takes thousands of millions of litres of water. Perhaps if DS hadn’t put a stop to the development of alternative energy there would be more water available for ranching and agriculture.

To be fair the infrastructure is 50 years old so failures are bound to happen. We also apparently have one of the lowest amount of breaks in a large city in Canada. But you’d know this if you watched the video.

Glad to see all the DIVERSITY hires working out so well, first montague PEI this happened to, now this. That they reported on, they didn’t report on it and I didn’t find out until a warning 36 hours after was in effect.
