Toronto "Walk with Israel" march confronted by pro-Palestinian protesters

23 күн бұрынThousands of members of Toronto’s Jewish community marched downtown as part of an annual "Walk with Israel" event that unfolded amid heightened security and protests along the route.
March participants, who were expected to turn out in record numbers, waved Israeli flags and carried posters of those taken hostage during the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas that triggered the latest war with Israel.
Marchers encountered two groups of protesters within the first hour of the walk, with police making several arrests during clashes with Pro-Palestinian demonstrators.
Duelling chants of “free, free Palestine” and “bring them home” rang out when the groups crossed paths. Police officers formed barriers between the two groups and intervened in confrontations.

Something I have noticed is that when Palestinians march anywhere in the world, there are violent clashes, and the police have to monitor them to ensure there are no violent clashes. On the other hand, the Israelis march in peace, and I have not seen them go to other marches in other countries to inflict violence.

Hard to say in the US the media reported on the violence of the college protest and it turned out it was the Israeli counter protesters were the ones causing it and that was omitted from the reporting. the narrative we are given always seems distorted. I was curious how many counter protesters there were instance. Go to the Toronto police services to read the charges but Israel is treated like Ukraine in the media for the most part imo.

Walk With Israel has been an annual event for decades. It isn't a protest. Given the current IDF actions in Gaza and the disproportionately high civilian death toll, I would imagine that some people must feel a bit conflicted. Some would, while wholeheartedly supporting the existence of the State of Israel, nevertheless be very critical of Netanyahu's leadership.

There's serious doubt that the civilian death toll is higher than is proportional, given the facts that Hamas blatantly lied about the numbers of dead and Hamas' uniform for their military being civilian clothing. Also the fact that "civilians" who aren't officially part of the army frequently joining in with the army's activities, like taking and keeping hostages... and defending against said hostages being rescued.

I think the threat of ethnic cleansing is there from the potential of expelling them from their lands. There were some leaked Israeli strategy documents pertaining to this several months ago. However, its obviously not a genocide based on your numbers, so everyone calling it a genocide is ruining the opportunity to preventively call out ethnic cleansing. I'm removed from both sides... I just think calling it a genocide, especially when there are real ongoing genocides, has been incredibly stupid.

Narratively it doesn't make sense, you're talking about 1 sides story then proceed to show images of the other sides struggle. And showing images of people having it worse than the people being described via audio, in turn, only garners more sympathy for the people being shown having it worse and dealing with harder conditions. Weird journalism.
