we shall have to wait and see if any of the contents survived. the fire at Notre Dame was initially thought to have consumed much of the interior. it was later found, that though devastating to the structure, much of the prized artifacts inside had survived.

This is overwhelmingly sad. The Group of Seven are by far the most famous Canadian artists individually on their own let alone by 3 original artists in the group creating a masterpiece. Disturbingly upsetting day for Canadian culture.

As a baptized and confirmed Anglican, I'm increasingly troubled by the opulence and greed seen in our church. Jesus taught us to live simply and care for the poor, yet we see churches adorned with priceless works of art while so many go hungry. These treasures should be sold to feed the poor and help those in need. Jesus Himself said, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth... but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven" (Matthew 6:19-21). He also told the rich young man, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor" (Matthew 19:21). Our churches should be humble places of worship, not sanctuaries for wealth. The true work of art should be our devotion to God and our commitment to helping others. Jesus emphasized this when He said, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat... whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:35-40). Let's advocate for a church that reflects these values, prioritizing charity and service over material wealth. Discuss these concerns with your church leaders and support groups within the Anglican community focused on social justice. Together, we can realign our church's priorities with the teachings of Christ.
