Burnaby RCMP Const. Shaelyn Yang, who was fatally stabbed in the line of duty, was honoured during a regimental funeral on Wednesday.
The service included more than 2,000 first responders who marched in the funeral procession and at least 1,500 other first responders who were at the Oval for the funeral service.
Const. Shaelyn Yang was killed on Oct. 18 while accompanying a parks employee to speak with a man living in a tent in Burnaby’s Broadview Park. Jongwon Ham has been charged with first-degree murder in her death.
Yang was three years into her career with the RCMP and served on the Burnaby detachment’s mental health and homeless outreach team.

Before she joined the RCMP she worked in Richmond Victim Services. When my sister was found deceased, I was working at YVR airport. Miss Yang, and CST Sarah, of the RCMP were the ones who gave me the bad news. Miss Yang's compassion was much appreciated. I won't forget it.

@@labeles41 I'm the person who gave free meals to Justin Borques brother in the days that followed his brother's service to the community. One dead cop brings a smile to my face. It brings a smile because they kicked down the wrong door and stuck a gun in my child's face and refused to apologize or even replace the door! Wasn't even the right door!!!!!!!! So everytime I see one in a box going into the ground I celebrate and thats my daughters justice for their wrong doing and investigative incompetence. Just think if they their job properly and kicked down the RIGHT door to the neighbors I wouldn't have this opinion

I tried to watch the screening of this on CBC. Compared to you guys, you caught the essence of this funeral and it’s magnitude on First Responders. Your camera work was magnificent. The CBC coverage was rote. As a Canadian, I felt this loss, sacrifice to serve her fellow human beings. This was a truly good woman. Thank you for honouring her life deservedly.

The camera feed for Global News vs the CBC is the same after about 20 minutes into the parade.... The CBC livestream on KZfaq just includes an extra 20-odd minutes of "warm up" camera work which kind of leaves one confused as to what the point was for the extra footage.... Maybe to show how nice the weather was? Anyways.... exactly the same cameras and angles after a certain point. Thanks to both news agencies for providing the livestream on this most important yet heartbreaking event 🇨🇦

@@WiseOwl_1408 give it a rest she was doing homeless and mental health outreach, this is what we asked the police to do when they come to wellness checks.. not with a buncha cops armed to the teeth. She just didn't know he had a warrant for his arrest (him being arrested a few times before this in the last year) and was apparently preparing to administer narcan thinking that he had overdosed
