A regimental funeral for constables Travis Jordan and Brett Ryan was underway at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Monday afternoon, 11 days after the two police officers were killed in the line of duty.
A number of dignitaries, including Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, Alberta Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis, Opposition Leader Rachel Notley, Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi and federal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino were also in attendance.
Jordan and Ryan’s caskets were draped in Canadian flags as they were carried past attendees to the main stage. The funeral was closed to the public but Edmontonians were invited to watch the funeral on a big screen set up outside the arena.
Jordan, 35, and Ryan, 30, were responding to a call at an apartment complex in Edmonton’s Inglewood neighbourhood on March 16 when they were shot and killed by a 16-year-old male.

What a stressful job that must be, no one deserves that kinda loss while working. Hope the families eventually find peace. The amount of folks I add to my prayers on these days makes me sad on its own.

What makes us Canadian is that we care about lives, We cherish our citizens. When people die serving us, we take it so seriously, because in Canada Lives are important, we love people, we love families, we love each other, WE love period. That is what makes us Canadian. No one should die randomly for selfish reasons. No one should die period. I miss home so much.

$400000 funeral Terible the loss of life for these men and families. At my job a coworker was killed on the job. Another crippled for life. Two families affected teribly as well . Fathers husbands dads. No parades for them They served Albertans One gave his life One won’t play with his kids the same ever again. His career affected. So sad for all families affected by workplace injury or death. We knew these coworkers well and felt like we were all family working daily together for years. Our company made a wonderful gesture building a memorial area. We all serve Albertans at our work. All loss of life or severe injury affects many and I feel for all those affected. Condolences to the families , so sorry for the loss of your loved ones

Throughout this tragic time, the only good responses the city has ever heard are from Chief Dale McPhee and Sergeant Robert Zalasky A lot of people in this city do not know how to give a speech, especially to a grieving audience I would like to commemorate Sergeant Zalasky for his near-perfect service, keeping an appropriate tone and using powerful language

There is a difference between 178 people dying on the job and 2 people dying on the job to protect 178. Police have an honourable duty and they are fit of an honourable funeral when they die to uphold that duty.
