Question period in Canada's House of Commons became heated on Monday after news broke over the weekend that a guest that was recognized during a sitting of Parliament on Friday was not just a Ukrainian veteran, but also someone who fought on the side of the Nazis during the Second World War.
Earlier on Monday, House Speaker Anthony Rota apologized saying he alone was responsible for inviting the 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka.
Alongside calls for the Speaker to resign, calls grew for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to apologize.
"The government has admitted that they vetted everyone who was in attendance that day. Will the prime minister apologize for having vetted this individual and letting him come anyway?" asked Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
Liberal House Leader Karina Gould responded by asking the Conservatives to "not politicize the issue" and that the Speaker of the House had already said he had accepted sole responsibility for inviting the guest.
