In tonight’s top story: A human-caused wildfire is on the doorstep of Fort Good Hope in the Northwest Territories, after exploding in size from an abandoned campfire. Officials say the fire has grown to 200 hectares and now threatens the isolated community of Fort Good Hope. Nathaniel Dove reports on what is quickly becoming a very serious situation.
The path toward peace in Ukraine took a few small steps forward this weekend at an international peace summit. Representatives from dozens of countries gathered in Switzerland to draft a roadmap of how to get there. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was at the conference, but other major world leaders skipped it. And as Mackenzie Gray reports, that’s cast doubt on how quickly peace can finally come to Ukraine.
Meanwhile in Canada, Ukrainians have been watching developments at the peace summit closely. And with another planned for the coming months, there is hope world leaders are being galvanized to bring an end to the war without giving in to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Heidi Petracek spoke to Ukrainian-Canadians about their hope for the future.
Plus, Israel says it's pausing daytime military operations along a 12-kilometre route in southern Gaza to allow more aid into the besieged enclave. As Redmond Shannon reports, aid agencies are unsure what this means but say the only solution is a permanent ceasefire.
It was an emotional day for parishioners of St. Anne’s Anglican in Toronto, Ont. On Sunday, they held their first Sunday service since the historic building was destroyed by a fire last week. Kayla McLean reports.
And finally, It has been nine years since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission issued its final report. An Indigenous-led research organization says of the 94 calls to action only 13 have been completed so far. And as Melissa Ridgen explains, they say progress is so slow it’s no longer worth tracking.

The biggest arsonists can be the so-called professional firefighters who show up to a fire with drip torches,instead of water hoses,and light more fires than they put out. Any rural resident reading this, please coordinate and equip yourselves to extinguish fires when they first start near your community. Don't count on the BC Wildfire Service to save your homes and communities, they won't. They will arrive a couple days to late. The government needs sensational Wildfire headlines on the 6 o'clock news to stoke the fears of climate change and forge ahead with the carbon tax.

@kennykenevil57 the BC Wildfire Service is a joke. I fought fire through the 1980's, 90's and into the early 2000's. Do you remeber or are you aware of the era when we were too effective at putting fires out and virtually eliminated fire from the landscape? I fought fire back then and we went in and contained and put firrs out.I fell trees on the west coast for 23 years and worked on the fires as a danger tree faller. Like i say, back in the day we went in contained the fires and put them out. The last few years I fought fire I was appalled at the lack of work ethics and the buruacraatic stupidity I was witnessing on the fires. Your either a paid troll for the BC Wildfire Service or related to someone who works for them because you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Go talk to some of the residents who were affected by the fires in the North Shuswap last year, talk to the people who witnessed the BC Wildfire Service light a 14km long backburn that burned down dozens of homes and half the community of Scotch Creek.

Watch Jim Cooperman's videos on the North Shuswap fires and get back to me. Firefighting in this country is a joke today. Having all the local residents in rural communities feeling helpless and being helpless when a fire breaks out near their community and being forced to evacuate while they wait for temporary foreign firefighters from Mexico, Australia and Brazil to arrive a week to late to start fighting a fire is no longer acceptable.

Last year I read about an investigation of Ukrainian kids from the Donbas (culturally and linguistically Russian) brought to very nice camps in Russia so that they wouldn’t get bombed by Zelensky. The youth (teens) were very happy at these camps. Did Global just regurgitate the “official line” from NATO, or did they investigate the truth about what culture and language these children belong to, and whether the parents were okay with the kids going to these camps. So ignorant to try to fool us with the notion that ALL Ukrainians are anti-Russia. It’s not true in the East. NATO nations want the resources of Eastern Ukraine. They don’t want Russia, and then China to get their hands on these valuable minerals. They want to sacrifice the Ukrainian men to ensure American wealth.

Probably. Most fires in Canada are started by humans, either accidentally or Eco-terrorists. The real baseline for natural fires is from 2020 when we were all locked-down. The Government wants to pretend they know many of these are terrorism, as they would have to explain why they cut the forest management budgets and clean-ups that prevent fires from spreading so easily. Or why border security is allowing known Felons from America to cross the border to start fires (7 of them were caught in BC last year). Funny how the "news" does not cover any of that...

call me crazy but its seems awfully interesting that this fires tend to always be in close proximity to cities and towns. small ones more so lately. ones the want to evacuate and don't have the people or resources to stay and help. Yet courageous citizens offer help and are forced to stop, our local heroes stay to battle the flames when the help leaves them. sickening state of affairs this country is in. stop funding wars that our none of our damn business and start fixing the issues here at home. Canada first. Canadians first.
