When "the big one" finally hits, will B.C. be prepared?
A new study has produced the clearest-ever look at what's going on beneath the seafloor in an area capable of producing some of the planet's most powerful earthquakes - and warns the risk is highest for southern B.C. and Washington state.
Global's Richard Zussman reports.

this report is a little deceptive - there have actually been 41 events in the last 10,000 years. but only 19 were a 9.0. the rest were 8-8.5, partial ruptures, most of which were off the coast of cal/oregon. the 9.0 could be as rare as every 500 years but the 8-8.5 are every 250-300 years and its been 324 since the last one. but just to mess with the math - there have been 1000 years between them at times, and only 10 years between them at other times... in other words - completely unpredictable - they can still only guess when. What I think is amazing is that by comparing Japan's quake to our coastline, Ocean shores will move 150 feet west and 100 feet down (lower in elevation) Seattle will move 50 feet west and 10 feet lower in elevation. Even Ellensburg will move almost a foot west.

I really wish that the CBC had taken the time to explain what a magnitude 9+ earthquake would feel like and do to the landscape, and that's roughly 20 minutes before the tsunami makes landfall and makes a really bad situation, boarderline apocalyptic. Imagine the earth under your feet shaking violently for 4 to 6 minutes and just think about what it will do to buildings, roadways, infrastructure like gas and electricity? It's really a frightening future for the people along the west coast of North America.

I am moving at the end of the month, I am putting a trailer on my E-Bike, my bug out bag is ready and I am out of here. Somewhere east high up in the mountains, I got basics, tent, bear spray, sling-shot, fish line, knives, medicine, etc. and I am gone from here. The undersea Cascadia thrust fault ruptured along a 1000 km length, from mid Vancouver Island to northern California in a great earthquake, producing tremendous shaking and a huge tsunami that swept across the Pacific.
