Britain’s new Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Friday that the U.K. needs a “reset” following his party’s landslide victory in the country’s Parliamentary election on Thursday. In a speech outside 10 Downing Street, Starmer pledged action but said that change would “take time.”
“Now, this wound, this lack of trust can only be healed by actions not words - and I know that. But we can make a start today with the simple acknowledgement that public service is a privilege and that your government should treat every single person in this country with respect,” he said.
Starmer’s predecessor, Rishi Sunak, apologized to Britons as he left 10 Downing Street earlier on Friday, adding that the electorate had given a “clear signal” that the government must change.
The election result has upended British politics. Labour won some 410 seats, an increase of 210, while the Conservatives lost about 250 lawmakers, including a record number of senior ministers and former prime minister Liz Truss.

Here's what China's 🇨🇳 leadership fears the most: - voting, - change, - freedom of speech, - transparency, and - the international rules-based system.

Who gave them their power? Who gave corporations control of everything including food. Who fought to kill unions paying fair wages and to prevent minimum wage increases? Conservatives. Blame their voters for the 1% controlling the 99%.

Best wishes to the new government. The road ahead is long and difficult. To turn U.K. around takes a concerted effort of all people, not just the political leaders. If you are a citizen, ask what you can do for the country.

Sunak was a kind individual. He inherited quite a mess from Johnson. He did what he could but there was a lot of turmoil within the party causing it split in two (Reform Party). It also didn't help that Sunak campaigned for conscription. It's not exactly a good selling point before an election. It's also not a good look to become PM without being voted to do so. This election is like Canada in 1993 all over again with Kim Campbell and the newly formed Reform Party. Hopefully Starmer is not some wack job like Corbyn or Trudeau and does a good job. He doesn't appear so but time will tell. If the Conservatives ever want to get in power again, they need to bargain with the Reform Party. Even if people start losing faith in Labour, they'll never win much like what happened here in the 90s and early 2000s.

Respect to Mr Sunak and his family; he did his best with what his past predecessors left him with. Anyone can become a leader when times are good, but it takes strength and courage to take up leadership when things are falling apart.

I am your sister from Yemen, and by Allah I only spoke out of hunger and distress. My mother, my brothers, and I lessons and tears. We are in a situation that only God knows about. God is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs for those who brought us to this situation. By Allah Almighty, I did not write this appeal out of distress and distress. Poverty, O world, they have felt it So, I hope for you. By Allah Almighty, Lord of the Great Throne, he ate what I had in the house. By Allah, my brothers, he is my brothers by sitting in the house. Who has no food? By God, we are in a very difficult situation. We have 6 people entering the house, and my father has died, and there is no one who can depend on us and who lives in it.We live in a rented house because we cannot pay the rent we owe. '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''' My brother, my first words are: I swear to God that I will not lie to you or deceive you. I am a Yemeni girl displaced from the war. My family and I live in a rented house in Al-Shahrab 15,000 Yemenis among us, and now we owe 45,000 for 3 months. The owner of the house is one of the people who does not have mercy, by God, my brother. He comes every day, insulting us, talking about us, and moving from the house to the street because we were unable to pay him the rent. The neighbors saw us crying and came back.They came back to talk to the neighbors and we were given the weekend. So we made him swear by God. He will take us out into the street. Have mercy on him and us. Our country is due to this war and we do not find food for our day, and my brothers and I live in a difficult life. Our father died, may God have mercy on him, and we have no one in this world who was with us in these harsh circumstances. My younger brothers went out into the street and saw...The neighbors eat and stand at their door in order to give them bread even if they break it. By God, to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, they closed the door and expelled them and came back crying. They are dying of hunger. No one has mercy on them and a holiday is returned. I have made a living, and now if one of us helps us with a kilo of flour, I swear to God, I am dying of hunger. My brother, I am an alien to God. Then, I ask you to help me for the sake of God. I ask you, by God, to love goodness and to help me, even if you can, by messaging me on WhatsApp.On this number 00967717354582 and ask for the name of my card and send it and do not be late and may God reward you with all the best, my brothers Sagar, see how they are and help us and save us before they throw us out in the street, you will be lost or we will die of hunger. My family and I ask you, by God, if you are able to help us, do not be late and may God reward you well..`/--~«««~-♡~♡~♡~~•~•~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡♡♡~~~: ~:~¡~¡~¡~;I.i.i.i.i.i. i.I.|-.....😢.....

now it's gonna be worse 4 years of disaster. UK need to rejoin the EU.
@peabase
@peabase 2 күн бұрын
Yeah, about that. The EU isn't all that keen on having a very fractitious UK back. Let's keep in mind that the victorious Labour Party just got 9.7 million votes, while rabidly anti-EU Reform got a respectable 4 million. If you consider the Conservatives with their 6.8 million voters anti-EU, or at least Eurosceptic, the latter two parties already enjoy a majority over Labour. With FPTP muddying the waters, it may not matter when it comes to the House of Commons, but it would be problematic for the European Parliament, for which the UK had PR voting previously. No, I think we're going to keep the UK at arm's length for the time being.
