Trudeau speaks at Newfoundland Memorial Day as unknown WWI soldier laid to rest

3 күн бұрынJuly 1 is a day for most Canadians to celebrate the birthday of their nation - Canada Day - but for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, it marks Memorial Day.
In 2024, the 100th annual celebration was extra special as it is was marked with a poignant tribute to an unknown soldier who was lost in the First World War (WWI). And on Monday, he was finally laid to rest back home in a tomb that represents the fallen soldiers with no known grave.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau flew out to mark the occasion and deliver a speech to locals and war veterans alike. “Whoever he was, he fought for our freedom, so that we could enjoy the simple things in life that bring us happiness,” the Liberal leader said of the fallen Newfie solider. “Today we brought him home.”
Indirectly acknowledging Canada Day, Trudeau said that this nation did not happen by accident, adding that Canadians owe the freedoms they enjoy in modern day to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in battle.

I salute the sacrifice of the Newfoundland regiment at the Somme. Lest we forget. But, Newfoundland was not part of Canada at the time. It is Canada Day and as a veteran, I would have thought you fools in MSM and liberal mouthpieces should show him paying tribute to Canada. Newfoundlanders had nothing before 49' ...we joined Canada and benefitted from every social program we have today oap,cpp,baby bonus, mcp,ei,social services, other Health benefits & many many more opportunities. The Liberal Govt.have always served N.L well but others have as well.
