Trudeau on tense moment with China's Xi at G20: “Not every conversation is going to be easy"

Justin Trudeau spoke to reporters on Wednesday after video showed Chinese President Xi Jinping confronting the Canadian prime minister for sharing details of a conversation the two leaders had Tuesday on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali.
“Not every conversation is going to be easy,” Trudeau said, adding that his government strives to “be open with Canadians.”
Xi was seen in a video confronting Trudeau over "leaking" details of their conversation to the media. He warned their could be consequences for Trudeau, but did not say what those might be. The translator did not convey this remark to the prime minister, but Global News confirmed the translation with three Mandarin speakers.
Trudeau said Wednesday he recognizes that China has a large impact on the global economy and on events around the world but said Canada must be able to “challenge” China on issues of human rights and “values that are important to Canadians.”

God Bless Canada!! Unfortunately brother us Americans below you are in the same if not a faster sinking boat. The whole country is arguing over to old idiots, dividing families and homes while I'm still in shock those were the best candidates of all the eligible people who can run for president. Still wondering how every election the choices are getting worse and somehow we can't see left wing, right wing one bird flying in a consensual direction not one over powered wing causing a slow downward spiral It's a bad relationship no compromise by either side rather disheartening at times. Stay strong to all I bid you early sleep tonight.

Xi Jinping was telling Trudeau that he had distorted the reality, but Xi said it very euphemistically.

What really got Xi upset was Trudeau made things up about the brief private conversation he had with Xi the previous day. He added a lot of things that were not said/mentioned during the conversation. It was only 10 minutes chat , with translation, each person got like 2 minutes to say something but when he "leaked" this made up conversation to the press, he made it appear to be a 20 minute dressing down speech of Xi. He basically lied about the content of the conversation and used the lie to make himself "look good" for "standing up to China". What a joke as a leader. Any other country's leader would also be pissed off if someone did this to them.

Noticed how the Chinese translator moved out of the way for the film crew? It is meant for the whole world to see how embarrassing this was. As Xi was walking away, in response to Trudeau's meaningless remark which Trudeau made without letting the translator finish first, Xi said to his team: "Truly naive". Canada is one of the few countries (the only industrialized country?) that rely on trade with the USA more than with China. Hence it is for existential interests that Canada takes up the role of the most loyal follower of the USA. Also while being a minor global player, Canada disproportionately loves to lecture others from a self-perceived moral high ground. That being the case China naturally doesn't have time for Canada.

the frustration has nothing to do with open dialogue. it's the fact that he broke protocol. think about high level meetings and events. say 2 companies discussing a potential merger/acquisition, or a joint venture / partnership. these meetings are held in tight secrecy until both parties have signed legally binding documents and issue joint press releases at the same time expressing their views of what happened. these press releases are also coordinated well ahead of time to make sure that releases are timely and accurate. you never go into a high level discussion, leak information to the press (false information in this case), and expect the counterparty to take that lightly. you usually go into these meetings signing a NDA. and only after both parties have agreed to all terms, do you reveal the agreement to the public. Even then, not all deal terms are fully revealed; only what is agreed between both parties to be shared to the public is issued in the press statement. this guy basically did some shady things and used "free and open dialogue" as an excuse to cover up his gaffe. yes, open and free dialogue is important; however, that doesn't mean someone is entitled to break protocol. it means other people will never want to work with you again

Hi Indonesian here, this video went viral in my country just right after my country handing over the G20 presidency to India. Here's our frankly and manners conscious opinion on Trudeau's diplomatic narcissism that went wrong with leaders of more than 1 billion people. Just because you think you have a "habit" of frank and open dialogue, it doesn't mean you're entitled to spoil the whole closed door discussion to the press, it's just a grossly embarrassing and lack of diplomatic attitude. There's manner and etiquette when it comes to bilateral meetings which often happen off the radar, most of the discussion was carefully worded and going through discussion with both sides to reach common understanding. I'm afraid that the reasons why Canada (which part of G7) was so diplomatically insignificant because of Trudeau's insensitive and inappropriate behaviour, trying to be ahead of everyone, yet his behaviour dragging him behind further he clearly don't understand where his mistake started, and maybe his shallow cultural correctness shows the very fatal flaw how to deal with foreign leaders. No matter how many times you reshuffle your minister, but if your behaviour and communications don't add up, he just sucks at leading the nations. And we Asians like to deal with problems and differences by talking privately, not blaring out loud and making the impression that those who have a problem with us is the one who likes to make trouble.

His looks? Sorry, but the guy is creepy looking. I'm a woman and find him not the least bit attractive. To be clear, I sure as hell didn't vote for him and not because I find him visually unappealing. I don't vote one way or another based on looks. Maybe it was because he just exudes ugliness. His personality is ugly. His fakeness is ugly. His insincerity is ugly. His I experience is ugly. His entitlement is ugly. The fact that he really is not good looking is the least of his problems.
