Well I’m not surprised there is a lot of realtor agents that are sleazy out there like in my area there is a realtor agent that bought some land from an old lady for dirt cheap and sold it for five times its value Real estate agents are unethical people now and understand that there probably is a lot of ethical real estate agent but not as many as there used to be most real estate agents are quick to sell you a scam instead of selling you a decent house

Ok... is this how this particular event happened or was he describing how it CAN happen and speculated? Sounds to me like they just went in and pretended to be the owners. If so, how does the realtor not check into the true ownership? Maybe he's assuming and doesn't want to say a fellow realtor messed up.

How long were these citizens of convenience on a "business trip"?

Insurance? Or have the real estate lawyer be thorough. Maybe be required to do a title search themselves and not just "take it at face value". If the title transferred in the last 6 mths, then follow up!

Seems fraudulently selling a home without the owners knowledge may be as easy as putting liens against their house without their knowledge.

You should have a camera inside and outside, and check the movements sometimes.

How do you go more then a half a year without realizing your house has been sold. This is the issue with the market people sitting on houses their not even using, seems shady. Were the new homeowners paying a mortgage, so the banks or lenders didn't even look deeper into it??? I have more questions now than answers...

My insurance in Alberta just went up , government(tax), insurance and other basic necessities are barely affordable, we are been nickel and dame to death in Canada. Maybe that’s why MR Trudeau offers assisted dying because he knows we can’t afford to live here anymore.

I believe a property owner can put lien or caveat on their title so that any transaction would require you to be contacted.

This is why you don’t buy a house without a notary in Canada. They have to verify the history of the house, including loans. A notary would have found immediately that the house “changed” hands less than a year ago and that is highly suspicious. He would have found that the title transfer was incomplete, no contract attached to it. He would have found out that a bank most likely still has part ownership of the house. He would have found out that the “new” owners never paid any taxes on the house, including purchase taxes. That’s a big red flag. The buyers are not innocent here. If you buy a lived in house and it is available within weeks of purchase (the standard being several months) and is still full of stuff when you move in… well… you should know better. Fun fact: the lawyer committed a crime. “Electronic” signature is a risk HE took. And for a house? Forget COVID-19. Buy a HAZMAT suit and meet the sellers.

So what happened. Did the "new" owners move out?

Well you weren't using that home for several months. Might as well let somebody get some use out of it. Normal folks who live in their houses won't be affected by this kind of niche crime, so why should we sympathize with fat cats with empty investment homes? Let the rest of us afford homes we actually need to use. If these criminals keep on threatening investment homes specifically, we'd have affordable housing.
