and you can keep on doing that without Alberta and the rest of the west. Quebec wanted to separate because they 'wanted' something from Canadians. Alberta is going to separate because Canadians keep taking from us. Ontario and Quebec can circle jerk each other on their own dime from now on.

Didn't understand until I moved out here, Western Canada and Eastern are culturally different. They do hold slightly different values. Combine this with the fact that Ontario and Quebec alone pretty much decide how Canada is regulated and what policies are implemented, especially with First past the post voting. A lot of factors lead to a lot of discontent between provinces.

No Chatter Yet you guys receive all the money to pay for your pipeline, while here in Quebec we can’t get the feds to fund a single hydro dam. Obviously if the feds invest more in your economy per cap you’re going to have higher revenues. And that’s obviously not taking into account that your economy could easily collapse under a recession or a gas price decrease.
@Felix-vg4mv
@Felix-vg4mv 4 жыл бұрын
No Chatter BC only attracts Chinese investors who artificially inflate real estate prices on the back of your flawed estate laws whilst you see your buying power decrease in the hands of foreign interest. We don’t need Canadians to come here, we already have a specialized workforce, from a higher education percentage of ~30% compared to the Canadian average of 23%, from a diverse economy that includes an energy sector, biomechanics, aeromechanics, a diverse amount of minerals and much more. We just need money to finance our projects, not money in the hands of the poor, unfortunately since Canada doesn’t invest nearly as much in our industries as it does with Alberta we are restrained to lower wages while Alberta takes all the credit.

I havent seen any angry comments but hopefully I can explain. Its because Quebecers hate the rest of canada and have a sort of reputation for being rude. Also they want to be their own country despite that being a horrible idea, everything in Canada is written in both english and french, meanwhile Quebec is all french, yet they still complain. Dont get me wrong I love Quebec but people there are more nationalist than the rest of Canada so that creates tension. Not to mention the separatist movement in Quebec led to martial law and some politicians getting kidnapped and murdered in the 70s.

It started centuries ago when England and France were fighting each other. France colony came to North America, established the New-France. Then, the English came. William Winter and Lord Rixuel, I don’t think you learn the good history of Canada. The French discovered the St-Laurence River and established camp. They build a colony mostly with farmers from France. It is false to say that they were criminals. They wanted a new life and they thought that Canada could give them that. Then arrived the war where the French and British fought for the territories. France lost their colony but in a way they didn’t care much since Canada didn’t bring much to France as valuable assets... What I find beautiful is that even thought Quebec was now in the English rule, they kept their language and culture to the point that now, the province speak french. Imagine being one of the only place in the America speaking a language not used elsewhere. Really impressive!

New-France existed until the end of the Seven Years War, at which point it had been conquered and was ceded to Great-Britain in the Treaty of Paris of 1763. Penal colonies on the far side of the world like Australia were not a thing until later, when steam boats made navigation safer and cheaper. The voyage to New-France during the 1660's, when the population boomed, was prohibitively expensive. It was way more convenient for France to execute it's prisoners or have them do forced labour in France. Who settled New-France? ·Coureurs des bois (wood runners), adventurers who lived with the natives and procured valuable pelts and furs for export to Europe; ·Engagés ou 36-mois (hired or 36-months), workers who signed a 3-year contract to come build the colony and establish farms; some returned to France after the contract expired, but many decided to stay; ·Filles du Roy (King's girls), women from the less fortunate classes of France (orphans, destitute women, prostitutes) who had a bleak future, and to whom the King would give a dowry so they could marry if they went to the colony, which was mostly composed of men at the time.

The big thing Quebec seems to like is a party leader who is from Quebec (and who has a good command of French). Absent that, for a long time, they voted Liberal, because the Liberal Party has done a much better job than the other two parties in getting prominent Quebec francophone or truly bilingual politicians elected vs. the other two main parties. When none of the parties fits that bill very well, they now lean towards the Bloc. Their constant bouncing from one party to another since the 1980s is a sign that they do not take the Federal elections nearly as seriously as their own Provincial (aka 'national') elections, where they tend to have long trends of various ridings supporting the same party's candidates for election after election.

Quebec does not have 25% of the Canadian population. It's more like 22%. Quebec went from having the highest birth rate in the world prior to the Quiet Revolution to having one of the lowest. That's why immigration is key for that province. There are several French speaking countries in the world and Quebec most likely wants immigrants from those countries. Ontario is really the key battleground in Canada, not Quebec. It's been shown that a party can win power without getting support from the people of Quebec. Still, that province can make the difference between having a majority government or a minority one. It's also better for national unity to have people in government from Quebec.

Born in Quebec, lived in Ontario. Based on talking with people, most of the Quebec dislikes come from 2 major themes: - Separatism - Equalization payments Usually it's along the lines of one of those 2 issues. The first one is self-explanatory, but the 2nd one is one that is actually not as well known to Quebecois people in general since it's rarely covered in the media, and seldom taught in history programs (however Quebec schools LOVE mentioning that we didn't sign the Coinstitution). It's a sore point for many "have" provinces like Alberta who feel they're "supporting" the Quebec economy and the Quebec social programs through equalization, just to be outvoted by many Quebecois voters when the Federal tries to invest in their oil fields. What you notice the most IMO is the difference in what information is circulated in and out of Quebec. Having known people from all over Canada, Quebec really feels like a "micro-nation" where what they cover and what they learn from the rest of the world seems in isolation compared to the rest of the country.

plot twist. Quebec high school and post-secondary students rank better on average in history and foreign politics exams than their Canadian counterparts. Same goes for maths. Look it up. Big trigger warning. Better safe than sorry, right?

In my opinion, teaching French alone is racist. Canada should have a budget in other languages too. if Canada wants diversity it needs to embrace and allow other cultures to flourish. particularly in qubec. If Canada has french background it also has a first Nation, Indians, and Asian background too.
@linefrenette9116

You say it's racist to teach French only, I can tell you what you just said By adding that it's also racist to teach only English in the other provinces. And one thing you don't know is that in Quebec (outside Montreal) we also have schools that teach Cree, Innu and Huron Wendat and that's without mentioning all the other Aboriginal schools. Before calling us racist, educate yourself.

Top 5 So you’re basically basing your entire opinion of a race on your experience as a worker at uber support which I guess is the client support. Yeah the French Canadians have a direct approach and when their unhappy about something, they say it. That’s how we are and your experience doesn’t justify your comment.

That's a very good question, Ayven. What to expect indeed? I'd say it all depends. If you're a girl whose a 5 and above, I'd say a french kiss would be a good guess ...If not, well, let's see what could be expected... french words being spoken, maybe? p.s. Not to ruin your "gotcha" moment, but before you imagine that we set the bar pretty low when it comes to ladies whose mouths we'd be willing to stick our tongues into, keep in mind that any chick whose a 3 in Chicoutimi is like a 9 in Cornwall
