Some tourists in Vancouver's Stanley Park went for an unexpected ride after a pair of horses pulling a carriage were spooked during an anti-pipeline protest. The carriage was stopped for protesters when a car sounded a horn and scared the horses. The animals jumped the curb, pulling the carriage into a bench and throwing one woman off. Several passengers proceeded to jump off the carriage. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Did you see that man he probably couldn't even run 3mph And even if he'd had managed to grab one of the horses, he would have instantaneously regretted it! Two large horses like that can pull around 32,000 pounds, it probably would have ripped his arm off or out of socket.

I suspect the driver dismounted and went to the horses' heads (which is not incorrect) when they stopped, and lost his grip on the bridle when they spooked. The mistake is that on a vehicle like this you should always have TWO people. The driver stays on board and a groom or whip dismounts to "head" the horses.

The last thing a spooked horse is thinking about is eating oats, they're in flight mode. The blinders keep them from seeing things coming from behind, that's why they wear them. They're natural instinct tells them that something following from behind is a predator. You can train them to drive without blinders, but they are a good measure for precaution!

@@kyberghost3607 Honestly, a well cared for horse can enjoy carrying people regularly. Once they find a task they are good at, they like it quite a lot, as long as they're effectively given work-life balance. Some horses really love running and want to race. Some horses love jumping. Some love pulling. Some love teaching kiddos. They do need downtime and TLC though, much like people do. Belgian horses tend to like pulling; that's what they were bred for and are very good at. Unless they are being over-worked or have some other form of abuse, it is a nice activity for them.

Clearly the horses were not trained by the likes of a Barry Hook in England. These fine horses did not have that training.

@kazzana9013
@kazzana9013 6 жыл бұрын
cakeman58 Sack out just means you carefully get the horse used to anything that scares it. The horses get calmer and more confident with this training. Horses are curious animals and when they gain confidence with something that scares them, they will cautiously approach and smell it. With sounds they are first trained from a distance and when relaxed that distance is reduced until they no longer fear that sound. Of course you can never bomb proof your horse against everything, but the time taken in desensitizing a horse against anything that it may encounter makes for a confident and relaxed horse. I have no idea what training these horses received or if they are well treated, but most horses enjoy their jobs as few people want to risk their lives with an animal that weighs over a thousand pounds.

Horses usually know the way home, and they know their route. Video of a man in the UK who would get pie-eyed at a pub, his horse waiting outside with a buggy, and the horse would just take him home, no guidance needed. No panic necessary. They weren't travelling very fast, and clearly they were going along their accustomed route, with a few bumps and bangs along the way. Why didn't someone pick up the reins and slow them down, or go up front and talk to them to soothe them? They're lovely horses, not at all badly behaved, just badly managed.
