Actor Scarlett Johansson says she is "shocked, angered and in disbelief" over the newest version of OpenAI's ChatGPT.
It now includes an assistant named Sky, whose voice sounds eerily similar to Johannsson's.
Mike Drolet explains what the star says OpenAI had asked her, how the company is responding and how artificial intelligence is moving faster than any human or government can react.

The voice doesn't sound like Scarlett. Scarlett's voice has a more creamy texture while Sky is more acerbic.

If she had Scarlett's legal budget and didn't need to stay anonymous for safety as a ChatGPT voice, maybe the Sky actress ought to be suing Scarlett for interfering in her career. It'd only be fair. She owns her voice, not Scarlett. And I don't hear the similarity either. OpenAI doesn't need Scarlett, and they didn't need to shoot themselves in the foot by trying to "steal" her voice. Celebrity being mad because someone else happened to sound like her. Not really fair at all. Not like there's any real similarity anyway. The actress who actually voiced Sky, in her natural speaking voice, said it felt a little like a personal attack. This actress gets her voice taken off ChatGPT that she wanted to be on ChatGPT and people that loved the Sky voice can't use it now all because a really rich woman thinks she owns the rights not only to her voice but to anyone else's voice who sounds a little bit similar. At least to her. I don't hear it.

They altered the pitch slightly, but the tone and cadence were clearly "inspired by" Scarlett.

I wish they would replace actors with AI for 2 reasons: 1. So actors could look for honest, productive work that benefits society. 2. So they can make much cheaper entertainment. Which I rarely watch anyway and don't care.
