As an American I think Canada absorbing the T&C islands into their country makes a huge amount of sense. Canadians would LOVE to have a tropical province to call their own for winter vacations and the citizens of the islands would be permanently connected to a major global nation. I think it's a win-win situation for everyone!!!
@aheat30362 ай бұрын
It makes much more sense if they join the U.S. since they are very close to the U.S., their currency is the U.S. dollar and most of their tourists are also from the U.S. …. These islands have very strong ties with the USA. Besides, Canada is already a British Commonwealth monarchy so it doesn’t make any sense for the Turks & Caicos to leave Britain and become a part of Canada!… They might as well remain a British Overseas Territory in that case.

That’s definitely a great point, I’ll tell you the 29,000 people that live there are not coming north, if anything Canadians will go there and help develop that beautiful island paradise. We took over 30,000 Syrians that cost us tons of money every month in housing and lots more, we can easily could have a beautiful sunny South province. Let’s get a politician that will initial this

Tourism alone would make this a profitable venture. It's so close to Eastern Canada, it would be great to be able to use your own dollars on a tropical vacation. It may cost a lot in the beginning, but seriously, any country should always be open to the idea of adding to its land mass - especially if it's with a peaceful, willing partner.

Couldn't agree more. Seriously, Ottawa ... what's the friggin' hold-up here? I think I speak for most Canadians when I say: "I want my Turks and Caicos -- and eat it too!"
@crush42mash63 жыл бұрын
Timtwoface You were totally right on this venture, when we put hundreds of millions into the coffers in Ottawa with all the money we spend going back to Canadian‘s. I agree what you say and we need a politician to get this done and have some vision. Instead of hundreds of millions went to Florida and Arizona and other American states put it back into our own country

It would be realy beneficial for everyone: -Canada would win a lot of geopolitical influence on the caribbean zone, and a pivotal point for selling all of its products to it's neighbors. -Canadians would have a warm place to have vacations on their own country, making canadian tourism a really important industry for the islands -Turks and caicos would benefit from the canadian education and health systems, but that benefit would pay itself with the new canadian tourism. - They would get a stronger diplomacy on the zone (as full canadian territory, the fed gov would be more interested on developing the land than de UK) would benefit the islands. -More work opportunities for islanders in mainland Canada - A nice retirement option for wealthy old canadians And I could go on for days with benefits. The only reason for not encouraging it from both sides I think its not angering the british

@@Natashaa_1 Well, it's what I say at the end of the comment. Brits are not that interested on the islands anyway. And they can achieve full independence, it's not impossible. It would be a bold move for the canadians nevertheless.

There is no political will in Turks and Caicos for annexation. It is already enjoying being a British Overseas Territory and the use of the US dollar.
@649shellyy83 жыл бұрын
That’s not the only reason for not encouraging it, it’s because us Turks Islanders are good with being under Britain we don’t want to be a Canadian Territory 🤨

Canada should get in on this, it creates great tourism. A warm place for Canadians to have to go to that's still home. If Turks Caicos is willing to be great friends, why is Canada playing too good to be a friend, don't be snubbers. We Canadians are supposed to be a leading example of greatness. Come on Canada ! Be great, and be that incredible friend and join.

@@649shellyy8 If you don't care to be a British citizen why would it matter if the governance was switched from the UK to Canada? Since T&C Islands is not a sovereign nation anyway. You would be able to work/live/go to school in Canada as well. We would welcome you all with open arms and would encourage you to keep your traditions. Nonsense. If Canada asked, Britain would say "ask the government's of those territory's". If those governments agreed, Britain wouldn't object. No one is taking over anything, union with Canada is a widely shared sentiment in the Turk and Caicos Islands. The objections are mostly polemic as far as I can tell.
