With the deadline for contributions to tax-deferred savings accounts approaching on Feb. 29, Canadians have more choices than ever when it comes to socking away cash and reducing their current income tax bill.
Prospective homeowners may be weighing the pros and cons of contributing to a registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) versus tax-deductible contributions to the relatively new first home savings account (FHSA). But many Canadians indicate they’re feeling stretched when it comes to saving at all.
Global News spoke to financial planners ahead of the upcoming contribution deadline to get a sense of how Canadians should be thinking about their investments amid competing priorities and looming economic uncertainty.
Nivrita Ganguly has the details.

RRSP? FHSA? I've been contributing to Rogers, Loblaws & BMO's shareholder profits without a choice in the matter! Thanks to successive federal governments that have allowed an oligopoly environment to exist for these companies. Let's also not forget how my hard earned tax revenue turns into bribery money every federal & provincial election! Thanks first past the post!

Lol true true. Why are u paying bank fees still? Having access to a teller is that important? 20 years and I've never needed to talk to a teller. Simplii financial has no account fees and still unlimited debit uses. I just do everything online 🤷

This normally would be welcome info. However, many Canadians can barely afford their regular financial commitments let alone save any money thanks to the Federal Government 's mismanagement.

If you got money for an RRSP you must be making money under the table.

why do we pay taxes if they can just print money? Billion upon billions of OUR money is wasted year over year, if they can just print more of it, why should I go into debt for our governments ineptitude?
