RCMP announce one officer killed, two wounded and suspect shot in Coquitlam, B.C.| FULL

An RCMP officer was killed, two more were wounded and the suspect was shot in Coquitlam on Friday as officers executed a search warrant in a private home.
Ridge Meadows RCMP were searching a home near the intersection of Pinetree Way and Glen Drive in the Metro Vancouver city before 10 a.m., when an “altercation” began between police and a civilian, according to B.C. RCMP.
In the course of that altercation, RCMP said multiple officers were injured and the suspect was shot.
Const. Rick O’Brien, 51, was killed.
“This is an extremely difficult and tragic day for our members at Ridge Meadows detachment, Coquitlam RCMP where this incident occurred, and the greater RCMP and RCMP family,” said B.C. RCMP Deputy Comm. Dwayne McDonald in a Friday press conference.

I’ve known Rick since I was a little kid. He used to work on my reserve as a youth worker. He was amazing at his job! Me and all my cousins loved him 💕 all the memories I have of him were happy ones. I just remember all of us cruising around on the school bus blasting music. He would take us all over the place! and he was honestly the best youth worker that we’ve ever had. Thank you Rick for everything 💕 Rest in peace 🙏🏽

Why is the name of the suspect not released? I have noticed over time that the name is withheld when they are not Caucasian. I wish I was wrong

mostly no Canadian is "caucasian" which is a russian in the caucus mountains. the English are germanic tribes called anglo saxons and the French are francophones and quebecious lol no caucasian, thats a misconception . we are not muslims from the caucus mountains lol our ancestors game from England, Ireland, Scotland, holland, Germany etc not far east. those are Iranians.

I met him more than once near the LaFarge Lake he was there helping out with events very nice guy I was feeling very sad I was crying a lot and he approached me he asked me if you questions and all he said is that it's going to rain hard so maybe you should go home and tell your parents on how you feeling he really helped out our community rest in peace officer your 7 years of service will never be forgotten

All cops in Canada are heroes and were great when are dead. While alive I doubt everything was true. I am a citizen who I believe never have broke the law, drive about 20 years no tickets. While driving I came across , Mounties, opp and Toronto police, not nice experience or interaction with them. Their behavior is too much like not to drive someone insane. So arrogant and disapproving. Not helpful at all when you need them. In a mall a guy was fallowing me with a hidden knife. I went out, “luckily “ there was a civil van with five officers just outside the mall. I asked help to the officers, they hardly paid attention while looking at their phones. One officers told me that if the suspect were inside the mall and have done nothing to me, there was nothing they can do. I ask: so he has to stab me so you can do something? He says yes, unfortunately that’s the way it is. Me and my girlfriend left chocked to heard that. So, I don’t feel great about those experiences. But, I am sure there are many people who have similar experiences. Police is not there to help us, that is a big lie.

@@youngwisemangmail Because a job is more deadly doesn't mean it's more dangerous. Most workplace accidents are preventable but police have to deal with violent and dangerous people often. What prevents a violent and dangerous situation from turning into a police officer's fatality is the officer's gun and many bullets.

I am so sad. On my way to Maple Ridge from Mission. I had no idea what happened. . I saw the procession and I’ve never seen anything like it before. had I known what it was about? I don’t know if I could have travelled anymore. I’m so proud of our police. The procession was extreme and beautiful. My heart goes out. 😢❤

Thank you to all policemen and policewomen. I am sure you will read comment like the one by m. Kieran Devine below. Well, you of all people know that there are some individuals like that, and worst. But I, and many like me, know that without you, policemen and policewomen, the violent, the ruthless, the quarrelsome, the haters would rule this world.
