Queen Elizabeth knights Captain Tom Moore at Windsor Castle

4 жыл бұрынCaptain Thomas Moore, the 100-year-old WWII veteran and fundraising hero in the UK, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in a special ceremony at Windsor Castle on Friday.
The "unique" ceremony, held outdoors and with sparse attendance due to concerns over COVID-19, was held in honour of Moore, who turned walking laps in his garden to recover from a hip injury into a fundraising phenomenon in the UK, raising more than £32m for NHS charities.
"Thank you so much, an amazing amount of money you raised," Queen Elizabeth told Capt. Moore at Windsor Castle.
The Queen used the sword that belonged to her father, George VI, to bestow the insignia of Knight Bachelor upon Moore, hereafter known as Sir Thomas Moore.
“It’s amazing and what I love also is that he’s a 99-year-old war vet,” said Prince William in a special video message for Moore the prince posted on social media. “He’s been around a long time, he knows everything and it’s wonderful that everyone has been inspired by his story and his determination.”

I find it simply logical. The idea behind the ceremony is to honour this 100 year old frail man, not to torture or embarrass him, shouldn't he be able to get up again.

He is such an example for us all, but I think H.M. herself is just the same ... inspiring, loyal, dutyfull and therefore of so much value. Congratulations Sir Tom. Age has no barriers. He makes you proud to be British during these times with the pandemic. With H.M using her fathers sword it's extra special as he was King during WW2 while Tom was serving.

Fantastic! A generation that were true patriots to their country, and still are. One can only imagine what they think of the world today. A world they fought for, to keep free of tyranny. @@RileyWritey Untill there is Absolute medical science proof that the masks totally prevent the virus, I prefer my Constitutional Freedom of choice. I am not berating anyone choosing to wearing one .But, the research I have done, has not proven to me that they are fool proof. Personally I think there are so many other hygienic steps that should also be addressed, and continually reminded to the general public. Let's start with, Banning Spitting! Also, if your going to enforce these oxygen depriving mask, teach people how to wear them. They won't help resting on the chin, or worn under the nose! Or taken off to answer their phones in public. That's right the virus knows when to spread, and not spread. How about using good old Common Sense that G-d blessed us with, when out in public. Apparently most people have forgotten how to use theirs. Anyhoo..Stay Safe, and Healthy🇺🇸

I was thinking the same thing. There will not be another a knighthood bestowed on a centenarian by an almost-centenarian. I wish the photographers had a thought for the occasion and stopped shooting once they started conversing. Sigh. But what an occasion. Two old soldiers together, stooped in extreme old age and very happy.
