The famous Disney mascot, Mickey Mouse, will soon belong to everyone.
This is because the copyright on the character is set to run out on Jan. 1, 2024.
As Global's Mike Drolet reports, this fairytale ending is quite complex.

Yep. Superman enters the public domain in 2034 and Batman enters the public domain in 2035, for instance.

Though it’s the Earliest/first offical version of Batman and Superman, so anything after that(which is most of what we love about the characters, so the Batman you can use is Gun wielding vigilante in New York and the Superman you can use is Human with super Strength and super Jump) is still copyrighted and any other adoptions are protected as well.

There ‘s a ton of illegal use of Mickey Mouse here in Asia. So this doesn’t mean a thing. It’s just that you over there in the West can’t do it like a lot of things you can’t do in the “Land of Freedom and Democracy “ except your government and big business define what those things are for you.

Copyright is still important to reward small creators and artists, to make sure they can eat and pay their bills, the problem is that companies ruined copyright laws to make sure they only benefit billion-dollar companies, not the actual artists and creators who make stuff.

@@Y_hassRecord breaking profits?? Oh you must mean record breaking as in the lowest profits they have made in years and years and years for 2022 and 2023. They released 14 movies in 2023 and only 3 broke even or made money and the rest were massive woke flops. The attendance at their theme parks has been miniscule where they have lost money this year. They have lost money on disney+ as millions and millions of subscribers have canceled. They even lied about it and ended up getting sued by their own investors for lying about their profits when it comes to disney+. Were you just assuming they had record breaking profits because its disney or did you fall for some lie some woke fool told you? Disney CEO Bob Iger has admitted several times this year that going woke ruined their business but of course it never changes things because disney is stupid. So when the day comes that disney goes bankrupt are you still going to be sitting on your phone claiming "record breaking profits"?? Get a clue bud.

There’s for sure going to be some weird stuff that plays into shock value, but it’s not so bad. There’s a possibility that someone will make something truly great out of this. For a long time Disney let Mickey become stale and boring. I’m interested to see what happens.

My son is 11 and he loooves the classic black and white mickey shorts. But other than him I agree, I can't picture any other kid watching the old mickey.
