Workers and activists around the world marked May Day with protests on Wednesday, expressing dissatisfaction over rising prices, low wages and calls for greater labour rights. May Day, which falls on May 1, is observed to celebrate workers’ rights and often used as an opportunity to air economic grievances or political demands.
In France, Chile and Turkey, riot police and protesters clashed during the traditional annual march, as tear gas was thrown and several fires lit. Throughout Latin America, workers marched to protest austerity measures and demand higher wages, while those in the Philippines and South Korea rallied to criticize government policies.
"May 1st is a day of international workers' struggle. And on this day - and every day for that matter - I'd like to say to proletarians of all countries: Let's unite,” said French protester and high school teacher Julie. “Let's unite against the decisions of the capitalists, the bosses of the big multinationals, helped by the governments who defend their own interests.”
"It's not a celebration - because we don't want to celebrate work, given the conditions under which we work and the wages we get. We're here to ask, as we do every year, for better working conditions,” French protester and sewage worker Kerkoudi Karim said in Paris.

@@WishMFWOULD and I replied with one. Just because the SU doesn't exist anymore, doesn't mean that it didn't succeed in its purpose; it helped the people, it provided housing, work etc, it lifted vast populations out of poverty and it was amongst the best in sciences. The fall of the country, which was an illegal dissolution, didn't happen just because " it's system didn't work" but it was a number of reasons

Cuba. Most of the "failures" on the left have been the result of embargos! On the right austerity and graft to the top have been rsponsible for economic failure.
