During a news conference on Friday, where he elaborated on the team’s decision to "part ways" with general manager Kyle Dubas, Toronto Maple Leafs president and alternate governor Brendan Shanahan admitted he “felt differently” about the future of the Leafs after receiving a call regarding a “new financial package” from Dubas’s agent - prior to the cessation of his contract.
Shanahan added that the decision to split from Dubas was “ultimately” his own to make, claiming that money was not the reason for that.
An emotional Dubas said at his end-of-season press conference he wasn't sure if he would continue on as GM, citing the stress on his young family.
Shanahan said that some of the further personnel moves “have to be the responsibility of the new general manager.” When discussing his search for a new GM, Shanahan said, “I want to be very thoughtful and thorough but I do think it is a priority and it has to happen rather soon.”
Dubas, who took over as GM from Lou Lamoriello in May of 2018, was set to have his contract expire on June 30.
The Leafs won a playoff series for the first time in nearly two decades this spring when they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning before bowing out to the underdog Florida Panthers in a disappointing second-round showing.

All the GM's and coaches worth looking at are still working in the playoffs right now. Sounds like Dubas played Shanahan, and once Shanahan realized that he had to act.

Dubas said "its about mt family, i have to discuss with them, if i return it will be with the leafs ,i am not interested in going anywhere else"..lets see just how long that lasts, maybe 2 weeks?

What are the probable candidates for TML GM? I really hope Shanny finds an experienced GM with fresh ideas and makes hard decisions when needed!

It'll likely be one of the AGMs. Leafs have too big of an off-season to just bring in someone new. My money would be on Pridham

Honestly, he did some good trades but bringing Keefe as coach screwed him. Also, 4 expensive contracts at the same time and span. And that he has to go. Friends hiring friends not a good idea. Shanahan has to go else where.

Dubas built a team loaded with a few extremely expensive contracts, supported by nothing. You can't spell his name right, and you clearly don't understand the financials of the situation. Perhaps your opinion isn't as valid as you think it is.

@@kevinfoote1646 I've found that people who use age-related insults are usually the child, and not the other way around. If your opinion was correct, then Keefe would be gone. He's not, so clearly people who actually know hockey think that your opinion is wrong. You might understand the quip that "it's a business now," but likely not, since hockey has always been a business. Your problem seems to be that you're both ignorant of what makes a winning team - understandable since you cheer for the Leafs, as well as not understanding that bad businessmen give bad contracts to bad players and ruin the team's financial future. Enjoy another 20 years of not even making it past the first round.
