Iran election: Reformist candidate runs in snap election to replace president killed in crash

Iranians headed to the polls Friday in a snap election after the sudden death of the former president Ebrahim Raisi.
What makes this election different is that a little-known reformist candidate, who is calling for closer relations with the West, actually has a chance at winning.
But that doesn’t mean the hardline Iranian regime is going anywhere. Redmond Shannon explains.

We can only look at East-Asia, Japan and South Korea are pro-West, after their independence they copy and pasted the American democratic Capitalist system and they are where they are today. North Korea and China are anti-West and look at them. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen are anti-West. Iran before the 70s was pro-West now after the Ayatollah occupation they are anti-West, look where they were then and where they are today

Actually, most Iranians are not islamists. The majority support Israel just as our father Cyrus did 2500 years ago. It's actually the 'West' that allowed the Ayatollahs to occupy Persia. I don't blame all Westerners, but that is what happened. The Shah also made a mistake, he could have dealt with them accordingly. Prior to the islamist Ayatollah occupation, Iran and Israel were good friends in the 1950s and 60s.
