Humpback whales breaching water surprise family off Newfoundland coast

3 жыл бұрынTwo humpback whales surprised a family that were on a boat off the coast of Newfoundland in Conception Bay on Sunday when the whales breached the water multiple times, with Sean Russell capturing the moments on video.
The whales jumped into the air several times, creating large splashes in the distance, with the first breaches causing Russell's daughter to look in surprise at the camera.
The first two breaches appear to have happened near their boat, before the mammals breached again further away, with Russell saying it was "beautiful" and his daughter saying "show-off."
“It’s not uncommon to have whales around the boat,” Russell told Global News on Monday. “The whales are usually around and eating there, too.”

I love her reaction, she nearly cried from happiness (I would have too!) and you can tell she is comfortable and confident in the boat. May they have many more happy experiences like this - thanks for sharing!

I can agree. I live in Alberta and worked with many Newfoundlanders. They’re one of the nicest peoples in Canada. Don’t get me started on BC workers. 🤢

There are sights so wondrous in nature, they literally take your breath away. Something about whales breaching the water just makes me teary eyed. Those huge mammals leaping out of the water, how did this one do such a beautiful twist? I loved the child's reaction. "What just happened?" Moments like this, are magical and last forever. The young lady will never forget this special event that her family shared. What just happened indeed.

that's the coolest whale breach I've seen and s/he did it twice in a few seconds! Amazing they can lift their immense tonnes of weight out of the water and do a near turn!

Beautiful. Going whale watching has been on my bucket list. Seeing whales breach like that would be the same reaction but a little bit more excitement. I also love to listen to the splash when they crash back down. It's the few sounds of nature that I love listening to. Horses being one of them.

No surprise, the boat has stopped only because they saw breaching and cannot respect the 200 meter rule. This sort of thing should not be glorified , it is disrespectful and of poor taste. Prefer if DFO fined them.

You can't approach but if you're already stopped and they come closer to the boat there's nothing you can do. You have to wait until they move on. These people weren't doing anything untoward.
