Foreign interference: Elizabeth May has “no worries” about disloyal current MPs

The federal government has faced growing calls to reveal the names of MPs who are accused in a report from Canada's intelligence watchdog of "wittingly" providing information to a foreign state.
MPs have since voted to expand the mandate of the public inquiry into foreign interference, asking it to consider naming those in the report.
But as David Akin explains, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May says the media firestorm about the allegations is overblown, after reading the uncensored version of the report for herself.

My concern is that those MPs will be dragged by social media and legacy media. The haven't been convicted of any crimes yet. Imagine if one or more is wrongly accused. Or if releasing the names would interfere with the investigation of other MPs. I'm not opposed to releasing names, but we should be aware of the potential consequences.

@DAndyLord My concern is that these MPs are sitting cabinet members. With clearance to classified information. Coluding with enemy states. Canada above repututations. Then why won’t PP look at the unredacted briefing? Clearly he understands that as soon as he does know the truth of the matter, the whole shtick surrounding this issue would fall apart. What she says isn’t irrelevant, she’s one of the longest serving MP’s in the room if not the longest and has been at the helm of her party for many, many years. Shes incredible intelligent and clearly convicted in the things she stands for considering the policies shes advocated for for AGES

It is complete insanity that none of the named MPs are suspended from parliament and quite frankly demonstrates her lack of fitness for public office. Imagine if a police officer was suspected of this type of treason/breach of trust? She’s an embarrassment and so is our country. Our credibility slides further down the toilet….

@@callers420 It's a classified report that contains information provided by CSIS. Intelligence information is guarded since if other countries know how much information we have they will know alot more about what our intelligence gathering capabilities are. The report may also contain data that came from the 5 eyes network in which case the government is prevented from releasing it by the treaty.

That’s not the point. The issue is that those identified in the report are still sitting in parliament (presumably, because we have no information) and none have been restricted. You don’t need to release info to do that.

@@JMcG-bq5vk Which May covered. According to her the report didn't contain any evidence that any currently serving MP has colluded with a foreign government. Singh said that some MPs had unwittingly or semi unwittingly given foreign governments information that in some cases they shouldn't have. However that would indicate that MPs need better training not that any need to be removed from parliament.

The previous and current American presidents are both poorly spoken and guilty of saying unintelligent things. Just like in the USA she speaks to a specific type of environmentalist populism. I tend to vote Conservative federally, I don't care for the way Pierre seems to be courting right-wing populists.
