Englishman here. Yep I agree with you about booing the anthem. That was bad, and pathetic. (Also counterproductive, only a weak team would be anything other than fired up by that.) No about the medals, the players thought they'd failed their country and felt ashamed to accept anything by way of reward (when in fact it was the 'fans' who were disgraceful.) I believe 100% that the players were not trying to insult Italy. Same i think about not staying. To be honest i didn't see all the aftermath. I hope they at least gave your team a 'guard of honour' before they left. Last night i was (i won't say 'happy' about the result, i'd rather it finished with a goal from open play) but as a game of football, i don't think either team deserved to lose. I do think that it was probably the right result, on the night and definitely the right result overall for the tournament. italy were the best team at Euros 2020. But it was close on the night! Southgate has been humble and respectful in victory and defeat the players have been as far as i can see grounded, not arrogant, and have played bravely.
