It was a big week for British Columbia in Canada's capital, with the spotlight on B.C.'s drug decriminalization pilot in the House of Commons.
B.C.’s three-year drug decriminalization pilot project became a hot topic last week when Premier David Eby requested the Criminal Code exemption be modified to allow police to intervene in illicit public drug use once again.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was ejected from the House of Commons on Tuesday for refusing to withdraw and apologize for saying it is a “wacko policy from a wacko prime minister.”
Global BC's Richard Zussman spoke with Pierre Poilievre about his thoughts on drug policy, safe supply diversion and bail reform for violent offenders.

@@rhetorical1488 Sure. But remember Pierre says he will cut $1 for every $1 he spends. So, we can’t evaluate whether this is a good idea until we know what it costs and what we give up. Last time they cut something, they cut $1 billion from Veterans Affairs. Incidentally, Alberta has 5 less overdose deaths per 100,000. And that’s a UCP government in charge with no hard drug decriminalization. You’d think that would be the model… but no. Why does Pierre never talk about that?

@@hamlo8884 overdoses and increased addiction have to do with 2 major events. 1). Pharma companies hiding data on addiction 2). What about questions like...Would Pierre sell more of Canada to China? Will he sell our national debt to them? They invited China into our judicial system by giving them the right to sue Canada, encouraging election interference, so these are valid questions. How does Pierre justify the free vacation he accepted from China to ensure conservatives "trade deal". Saying, "things will be different" under him only means he'll go back to his old ways. Conservatives were guilty of Contempt of Parliament. He should explain that. He encouraged violence when he posed with people breaking the law, but claims to be against crime. Conservatives sent innocent people to countries where they KNEW they'd be tortured. It cost Canada multi millions because of the CRIME they committed. The door to Canada will be wide open to criminal acts under conservative rule. WACKO Pierre supported India more than Canada when he said Trudeau was too much trouble.

@jaygray7102 You make some excellent points. Particularly, your observation that "He encouraged violence when he posed with people breaking the law but claims to be against crime." Pierre does often tout his tough-on-crime stance and his willingness to use the notwithstanding clause if elected. He once remarked in an interview about a convicted murderer, "he will stay behind bars and only come out in a box" when asked how many times he would invoke section 33. Not someone I'd like as Canada's PM.

He repeats the same talking points ad nauseam, he relies on attacking his opponent instead of standing on the merit of his own platform, and any person with common sense can see that there is zero substance to his plans, it’s just words to rile people up. Anyone with any sense in their head knows that this is exactly what snakeoil salesmen do. Pierre is NOT worthy of the seat of PM! Trudeau has proven that he is NOT worthy of the seat of PM. Jagmeet Singh is NOT worthy of the seat of PM. Canada needs another option. Because voting for any of these three is not going to improve the lives of the average Canadian citizen. Mark my words under Poilievre the rich will get richer and the poor will suffer. Oh and the middle class will be become poor. The push to a two class society will continue with a Con govt.

The problem is bigger than usage and rehab. The society as a whole has gone down hill as has the government. Dog eat dog, every person for themselves. Homeless and addicts on the streets are just a visible symptom of the underlying spiritual issue. Loss of hope. Nobody wants to be homeless or addicted. Corruption and wickedness is heart condition. It permeates society at all levels. Unfortunately those on the bottom suffer and perish first.

I gotta be honest, living in Vancouver, I figured decriminalizing drugs was kind of a moot point. People already used openly and recklessly. But now you can literally walk down a street covered in vape level clouds of drug smoke just flowing through the air. It got worse. It’s a miracle of epic proportions in all of the worst ways imaginable. But this actually made the DTES worse. It’s a weird issue because regardless of one’s politics, most people have always been pretty on board with not being able to smoke crack in a kids park. Strange times we are living in.

I called the police on Wednesday this week to report what appeared to be an overdose adjacent to the main road leading toward the border crossing to the USA in Cornwall, Ontario. A man of middle age in clean clothes and without any sign of homelessness was laying on the sidewalk with both hands grasping his head and covering his eyes, he was rocking back and forth on the ground. There was no way to stop my car without blocking traffic so I pulled over at a car wash about 800 meters up the road and called the police. After waiting through 5 or 6 minutes of recorded bilingual options, and another several minutes listening to a self-stroking speech about government and police DEI initiatives and objectives, a human woman came on the line. I barely got to inform her what I was calling about when she cut me off and said she would transfer me to the ambulance. After waiting on what sounded like dead air for several minutes, another woman came on the line. I once again described the issue and the location. This second woman had no clue of the location; apparently they don't have google maps at the ambulance service. It turns out, she was in Ottawa, an hour away, not in Cornwall. She indicated she had to ask me over a dozen questions I informed her I could not answer as I was 800 meters from the person in distress- that took another minute and a half, maybe two. So, the citizen possibly dying in the street waited while our laughably inept government figured out how to use the alleged automated reporting system costing untold hundreds, of millions of taxpayer dollars. The entire process took 10 minutes...next time I will call 911 and see if that circus performs better. I am not optimistic though, the only time I had to call that line, after being pursued by an aggressive driver trying to literally force me into a ditch, they told me 'it was no big deal'. Your government loathes you citizens, were it not for your wallets they would not give you the time of day.

OMG! I was in Pizza Pizza last week downtown Ottawa on Rideau Street. A drug infused person came in half-naked, demanded pizza. He then kicked in the window from the outside. I was at the cash waiting for my slice. Trudeau has blinders on.

Hello from Saskatoon, just the other day a druggie burst into a restaurant my hubby and kid were eating at and demanded food as well. Threw a bit of a fit but eventually just left (probably because everyone just ignored him). We are getting numb to it all unfortunately:( Our shelter closed down in 2022 due to corruption and our homeless have nowhere to go:(

Here is a wake up call, I live in a small town in eastern Ontario and we have a Conservative MP and Conservative MPP and homeless and drug overdoses are absolutely sky rocketing, it has become a no go zone for anyone but drug addicts. I am a Conservative, but I cannot deny that my town is completely rotten and not safe for anyone but drug addicts. I'm questioning my alliance to these enablers. Health care has completely collapsed here too, drug addicts come first in emergency rooms, they are the absolute priority of everyone and everything. All white males being led down this drug addiction path, it seems by design at this point.

When you fill a country with illegal drugs and have cartels operating here from MEXICO NO ONE SHOULD BE SURPRISED AT THESE ISUES...open borders. An enemy does not need boots on the ground to destroy our younger population. Go hard on the importers/kingpins and secure borders & ports. Every death has a deep impact on families & friends who will need support to deal with the emotional trauma. Automatic Seizures of assets from major dealers/cartels can be put to use to support rehab. Profits are high in this business. use in supporting rehab sites.

Took my wife and two daughters (21 and 19) to BC to celebrate my wife's 50th Birthday last week. Found a cool restaurant within walking distance from our hotel, so we stopped in. It was Sunday evening and the place was deserted. When we were seated, the waitress asked my daughters for two pieces of ID. They each produced their Ontario issued driver's license, but the waitress said she need two pieces of ID. I calmly explained that both my daughters were only having water so what's the problem, and she told me "Sir, that's BC law". We left. I think our next trip will be back to Canmore/Banff.

All one needs to do is walk downtown Vancouver to see what Trudeau and the NDP have caused. Trudeau and Jagmeet should have to spend a week living on the street with the drug addicts and homeless to see just how bad it is. Maybe then Trudeau would finally understand that correcting the drug problem in our streets is FAR MORE important than his personal campaign to tie Pierre to Diagalon. He needs to give that a rest already. Focus on what matters!!!!

I watched a young women on Victoria Street Kamloops BC standing at a light crossing bend over in half stoned out of her mind. I past there an hour later, she was still there. So stoned she couldnt move. Walking dead thats what I call them. I really disagree with this decriminalization pilot. Free drugs are not the solution. I know a person that laughs about the free drugs or regulated drugs she gets, she says its a bonus for her daily drugs she buys. Its disgusting. The average person is fed up with this twisted way that the government thinks drugs is ok.
