Cricket is the world's second-most popular sport, but perhaps remains the most confusing.

Also because of political pressure between Pakistan and India, it happen that both team would strive hard to win the game. It also happens that both team started playing in neutral field of UAE and there both teams for equal number of Indians and Pakistani fans and craze goes on. Thanks to India large population and local Legends like Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Gavaskar it became the second largest followed game after soccer

Basically is a baseball game where instead of 9 innings, its one very big inning taking up the whole game. Both teams get as many runs during their turn before all their batters are out. The first team that goes builds their lead then the 2nd goes and tries to overcome that lead for the automatic win the moment they do.

Important to note that each team has two turns to bat (known as innings). Example: Team A first innings: 120 runs Team B first innings: 90 runs Team A second innings: 65 runs (total 185) Team B second innings: need to score 96 runs (total 186) to win. If they only score 50 (total 140) then Team A will have won by 45 runs.

To those who don't get the "5-day draw" idea: To win a 5-day Test match you have to tick a lot more boxes than in a shorter T20 or ODI match (hence the name "Test"). Factor in weather issues, and/or a team fighting back to at least ensure they don't lose, then the idea of a draw (in a purposely tough match format) might not seem so absurd.
@charliecharliewhiskey9403

There's technically nothing preventing a test match from being properly timeless (never ending until a real result regardless of whether you reach 5 days) but the last one was in 1939, and had to be abandoned because the English team needed to catch their ship home. The ICC was considering having a Timeless match as the final for the World Test Championship, but it ended up being scheduled for 5 days (and ran over 6 because of a lost day).

But there's a thing about cricket, it fairly unpredictable. Underdogs regularly, and often inconsistently, defeat stronger teams. And one more thing you might find weird, a lost, in fact, most, depends on the type of the ground, weather, and time of the day when you're playing

Now you see why those of us that just know baseball have a hard time with it,. Also in this video it shows two blue dots as the batters? Or is there just one on the field at a time? If two, why? And is the pitcher guy able to field a ball or is he neutral? Anyway I need to find somewherethey play this in the states to get a better idea, looks interesting

The bowler(pitcher) can bat when it's his turn and stands on the field once his over is done he can't bowl 2 in a row. In t20 they are only allowed 4 overs in odi 10 test unlimited a test is the purest form of the game.

The batter does both, he has to protect the wicket and score runs. Usually theres two batters at once called a partnership, alternates when an it is the next over or the player scores a run(basically means you run to other side and your partner runs to your position). Yes, batter can hit behind side and front, better where there is open space. Every defender(bowler) can field like baseball(pitcher can catch an infield fly).

I'm clearly missing something. The batter is in her crease, box or whatever its called according to the field map. She doesn't move until the bowler taps the pin behind herself. Which is after her not delivering the ball. How does the thrower crossing her own line mean the batter is at fault? The pitcher was never in a delivery strike? So somebody explain this, please? Edit!!! Ok I saw the other batter. This video makes it seem like the batter at the other end is at fault. They don't even barely show the batter at fault.

Cricket has everything you just listed beside the 90 minutes part. Both contain extreme amounts of athleticism and both have confusing rules. For example, it's difficult to explain to someone the off-side rule. It's also difficult to explain the LBW rule in cricket. Both soccer and cricket have a LOT of rules which makes both games more exciting to watch.

@@anishjagannathan1576 Basic rules of football - or for that matter, of almost any other sport - can be explained and understood in a couple minutes. How do they get them out other than catching? They throw the ball at the wickets? What if they miss the wickets? The batter keeps running? other than catch out you can can get out by wicket (where bowler delivers ball and fails to hit and ball hits the stump , here is one rule know one says when ball hits the stumps the bail one the top of stumps should fall[ at least one them] then only it is considered as out , everytime the bails will fall when you hit the stumps but at very rare instance it doesn't happen ) , runout (when you are taking a run before you reach the wicket line if fielder hits the stump it is out if you watch base ball it is similar to tagout ) here if he missed hitting the stumps batsman can complete this and can take other if he wants or if its possible sometimes even though ball misses opposite fielder stops it so batsman will take another run if it is possible (like baseball it is not mandatory to run after hitting , batsman can run if he wants ) , stump out ( when batsman advances to hit the ball and crosses the wicket line but misses to hit it then keeper can catch the ball[catch out will be counted if it hits the bat) and can hit the stumps before the batsman returns to the wicket ) hitwicket (when batsman himself or his bat touches the stumps while trying to hit the ball [it will happen by accident most of the time]and bails fall then he is considered out) and lbw (this the most complicated one to explain you need to know cricket completely to understand this there 10s of rules around this how it works so many new learner can't understand this properly but I'll give basic of it lbw[leg before wicket] if ball hits your legs and legs were in front of stumps then an umpire can give out if he thinks that it can be wicket if it doesn't hit your legs and if fielding team thinks that as an out and umpire doesn't given out they can challenge the decision by asking for review and in review the uses drs technology and analysis by ai gives it whether it is out or not and it will be most interesting part because each team get only two reviews per innings if there challenge was correct they will win get a bonus review ([f a team uses one review out of two one will be left and if they win review they will get bonus review and again they will have two reviews] and batting team also can challenge the umpire review if he thinks he is not out but umpire given him lbw ) . Can they just hit the wickets holding the ball? YES THEY CAN HIT THE WICKETS OR STUMPS HOLDING THE BALL. Does the pitcher have to bounce the ball? yes the bowler had to bounce the ball while bowling(pitching) and if it doesn't bounce it can be considered legal if it is below waist height What if it goes past the batter but doesn't hit the wickets? most of the times keeper would stop the ball but if keeper also misses it may go out side the boundary line then bating team would be awarded four runs (under extraruns category) . if it doesn't reach boundary line or some fielder stopped it before reaching the boundary batsman can take runs these runs are called as leg byes ( it wont be counted in batsman individual score but this will be added in teams total score and this runs are also come under extra runs category) what are extra runs extra runs are the runs which are to awarded to batting tem because of fouls , technical mistakes by bowling team and runs scored through leg byes

Six balls are an over but what is a ball? Is it every bowl? What if the bowl is nowhere near the batter? Is it only when the batter hits the ball? Also, an inning is 50 overs. Does that include every batter for the team? What if one batter never gets an out? Is he the only batter? What if he isn’t scoring a lot of runs? Can you just switch?
@cricketexplained8526
@cricketexplained8526 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, six legal balls (synonym: deliveries) makes an over, regardless if the batter hits it or not. If the ball is too far from the batter to hit, it does not count as a legal ball. Not every player on the team has to bat. This is in theory good, since the bottom of the order is the bowlers, who are not picked for their batting ability. A player can remain in play throughout the whole innings provided they have a partner to bat with. If they run out of partners (i.e. 10 of the 11 players are put out of play) they cannot continue anymore. No, you cannot switch a batter during a match if they are not doing well. Hope that helps.

@@cricketexplained8526 I forgot to say that this part is very true for baseball as well: "This is in theory good, since the bottom of the order is the bowlers, who are not picked for their batting ability. " Pitchers (like bowlers) are definitely chosen almost entirely based on their pitching abilities and depending on the league may or may not even have to bat. Even if they do they will generally be the last batter in the lineup. Now, in baseball the bottom of the order will still have to bat often because of the way batters rotate through the lineup but they often will get one less at bat than the top of the lineup. So you can't hide bad batters quite to the level as maybe you can in cricket but it still makes sense to put them at the end of the lineup. Just an FYI if anyone knows cricket but not baseball they might find that interesting.

As you know they are 11 players in each team. The opponent team to bowled out all 11 players to get their turns to bat. But their is an exception. In limited over match like t20 and 50 over ODI the above mentioned thing is applicable but in test match If you think that what you have scored is enough for the opponent team than you can declare your innings and invite your opposition to invite to bat even your own all 11 players are not bowled out.

just take base ball as reference there are nine innings but in cricket there are only two innings (one innings for each side to bat / one inning for each side to field .you can say either way) so a player gets only once to bat and other team will bat after completion of the first team innings . an innings can be completed in two way 1) getting all batsman out (which is getting out 10 player out of 11 , as one player can't play you need another player at opposite end / non striker end for rotating position and getting runs ) 2) by completion of overs (an over is set of six deliveries /six throws/six bowls . a bowler(pitcher in base ball terms) can bowl in alternative /non continues overs i.e if he bowled 1st over he can't bowl second over but he can bowl third over , fourth bowl , fifth upto the last over and if he again takes at fourth over to bowl he can't bowl fifth over but any other over after fifth over . and a bowler should bowl a complete over if he takes to bowl an over ,if he is bowling terrible then also he should compete the he came to bowl) generally in odi format/ one day international format an innings would have 50 overs or 300 balls in t20 format an innings would have 20 overs or 120 balls. by this information i think your doubt is clear i didn't added about test format because it may make you more confusing

Okay I get the format but can some explain to me in baseball terms. Is there a defensive setup or are there positions in field that fielders leave? Are there shifts to the left or right that the bowler can make them hit too? I’m trying to understand from a coaching aspect.
@furqanmk
@furqanmk 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know baseball rules very well but I can try to explain how fielding works in cricket. When a side is fielding, there are 11 players on the field to catch the ball and save runs. The team sets up the fielding positions according to the type of bowler and how attacking they want to be. Yes, the bowler or the captain can change the field to whatever positions they want depending on the situation of the game. In cricket, the turn (swing) in the ball is very important since you pitch the ball, unlike in baseball where the ball goes completely aerial. If the bowler feels he can get the batsman to "edge" the ball behind the wickets, he will try to have more fielders standing behind. There is no restriction on how many times you can change the field but there are restrictions on how many fielders can stay outside the inner circle in limited-overs cricket. There's a 30-yard circle around the pitch and there are rules about how many fielders can stand inside it during certain phases of the game. There's a phase called "powerplay" in limited-overs cricket when only 2 fielders are allowed outside the inner circle. This encourages the batsman to hit the ball in the air over the inner circle to get boundaries (the 4's and the 6's).

I see more what you mean by shifts to left or right. Basically the fielding side will move their fielders as often as they like in whatever arrangement they think is most likely to subdue the scoring and get batters out. However in the short formats of cricket (white ball) there are certain restrictions on where fielders can be. The aim of this is to promote the number of 4s and 6s scored to make for a more entertaining game.

Over is slot of six balls (strikes). A bowler (pitcher) bowls (pitches) six balls (strikes) and thats called an over. Once an 'over' is finished, another bowler (pitcher) takes his/her turn and starts another over (6 balls)

1 over = 6 balls. after one bowler bowls 6 balls its an over. Hope you get it.
@amalkumar2775
@amalkumar2775 3 жыл бұрын
An over consists of 6 consecutive legal deliveries bowled from one end of a cricket pitch to the player batting at the other end, almost always by a single bowler. After six deliveries the umpire calls 'over'; a different bowler is selected to bowl replacing the previous bowler. The captain of the fielding team decides which bowler will bowl any given over, and no bowler may bowl two overs in succession. T20 cricket : 20 overs per innings. Each team is allowed one innings to score runs. A typical T20 game is completed in about 3 hours. One day cricket : 50 overs per innings. Each team is allowed one innings to score runs. This format of cricket takes approx 8 hours of play time. Test cricket : Oldest & longest format of Cricket. No over limit. Each team will get two innings to score runs. A test match can last a maximum of 5 days(6 hours per day). When neither of the teams are able to bowl out the the opponent team two times, and score more than their total in their two innings while still having wickets/hitters in hands, results in a draw.
@anishjagannathan1576
@anishjagannathan1576 3 жыл бұрын
1 Over = 6 LEGAL balls bowled/pitched at the batsmen. In one-day cricket, there are 50 overs, so 6 balls multiplied by 50 overs is 300 legal balls bowled. If it's 20 overs, then it's just 6*20, or 120 legal deliveries. If a team uses up all of their allotted overs, then the next team comes to bat, or if they didn't score enough runs to beat the other team in those overs, then they lose the game.
