Canadian-born son of Russian spies addresses media after citizenship affirmed

The Toronto-born son of Russian spies, whose Canadian citizenship has now been affirmed by the Supreme Court of Canada, spoke to media in his hometown on Dec. 20.
Alexander Vavilov and his brother Timothy were born in the 1990s to parents who were later arrested in the United States for conspiring to act as secret agents on behalf of a Russian intelligence agency. Their story was the inspiration for television show, The Americans.

Его родителей забросили ещё в 80-е годы, с заданием не допустить Третьей мировой войны. И судя по результатам они это задание выполнили. Ему нечего этого стыдиться. Они делали хорошее дело, хоть и считаются преступниками. В Америке они преступники, а в России они Герои. Это нормально :) Но коль скоро ребёнок никогда не знал своего истинного происхождения, то естественно, что он считает себя канадцем. Он и есть урождённый канадец. Поэтому его желание вернуться на родину вполне естественно.

В РФ любой прислужник режима подается гос.пропагандой как "герой". И не нужно эти сказки о войне рассказывать, мы прекрасно знаем чем они здесь занимались и зачем приехали. Совки, вытянувшие счастливый билет - хорошо пожить в "загранпоездке" за чужой счет.

He is lying. The young man has a Russian accent, so the family probably spoke Russian at home. How com he did not ask his parents why they did not have any relative in Canada or anywhere else?

He does not have a russian accent. He was raised as a canadian, so probably his first language is french.

of course the parents are not happy about it. his farther in interviews sounds uncomfortable about his sons' choice. however having your children not following you is just a collateral damage of this profession i guess.

Do you really believe he didn't know his parent's identities? They lived under the same house, the same roof, bath in the same bathroom. If he is lying which I'm certain of it, he is doing it very well.

Эта печать на нем, -история его родителей, никогда не позволит ему жить обычной жизнью обычного человека. Он всегда будет под пристальным наблюдением, как секретных служб, так и любопытства журналистов и обывателей. Ему придется найти свое оригинальное место в этом мире. А высокое положение в обществе его родителей сейчас в России могло бы помочь ему занять высокое положение там тоже. Будет интересно следить за его судьбой. Проявятся ли русские гены? )))

@@olgasel6186А мне кажется родители, захотев иметь детей … захотели дать им лучшую жизнь… Так интересно, имигранты проходят эти трудности с языком и тд… чтобы иметь возможность жить лучше… Этот парень оказавшись в России не увидел для себя возможности, ради которых стоило бы преодолевать барьеры…

Я тоже не верю! За 20 с лишним лет они не успели добраться ни до какой важной шпионской информации. Может быть они шли к этому, но не успели. А когда их вернули в Россию, они там стали героями. Прям смешно. Они жили в Америке простой нормальной жизнью, как и все. И я уверена, что возврат в Россию для них был трагедией, а не тем, как они это предоставляют. Конечно сейчас они на высоте, в почете, при деньгах. Но патриотизм - это всьо крылатые фразы, они вынуждены так говорить. Жизнь сыновей тоже испорчена.

Valilov was happy that he won the battle for Canada citizenship. It good that he want to live in Canada as he knows dual languages and a born Canadian. The son of the Russian spies stripped of citizenship after his parent was arrested in US for espionage can be considered lucky to grant Canada citizenship...

He lived in Canada as a baby for two years, that's all. He simply can't have a Canadian accent. I sense a hint of an Eastern-European accent, though. I wonder if he picked up a bit from his kgb parents.

@@yerkinsars4982 she does have a noticeable Eastern-European accent in both English and French. Maybe that influenced the way Alex speaks a bit. I can't place his accent at all. Sounds generic and a little strange.

I'm happy for him and his brother. Citizenship drama has caused me a year and a half of stress and worry about any kind of stability. This guy sounds well traveled but probably a boring guy.

@@Diana.parker1111 ну у нас в Калифорнии так точно не разговаривают🤣🤣, но он с другого побережья Но я думаю это от того, что он учился, видимо , в чартерной школе в окружении детей-иностранцев( так рассказывали его родители) , плюс преподавание вроде было на французском языке, плюс все-таки огрехи произношения его родителями,( поскольку они выдавали себя за выходцев из Канады), видимо вся эта сборная солянка и повлияла в конечном итоге на его манеру говорить

He's a likable dude, but I can tell he was spoiled as a kid. You can see that sense of entitlement probably coming from the huge amounts of easy money in his family. BTW, when his parents were recruited by the KGB in the early 80's, among the Russian youth it was considered a really bad taste. It took a real twisted character to agree to work for the KGB.

it's a tragedy - his noble parents devoted all their life to their country, and their child doesn't even feel he's Russian and Russia is not his Motherland. He should be proud of his extraordinary parents, but he is kind of embarrassed of them. Disappointing and tragic story.

Well, his parents paid a lot of money received from Russian tax-payers to give their kids the most expensive education possible. They used the same source to many years pay for one of the most expensive lawyers in Canada. This whole situation including the court decision is absurd to the core, but of course I understand he's not the one to blame.

He should be glad that he is Russian.He must especially be grateful to parents and Russia for the fact that he lived as he lived, and not like most ordinary Canadians who cannot afford a good education.

Родителям вообще не нужно было размножаться, предатели, прежде всего, своих же детей - те самые родители, которые угробили будущее своих детей. Ну и Канады, которая дала им возможность жить нормально, а они так с ней поступили. Отвратительно все это.
