Canada becomes 1st country to have individual cigarette warning labels

Canada became the first country in the world to have individual warning labels on each cigarette after its regulations officially rolled out on Tuesday, with king-size cigarettes the first to be wrapped with the new information.
Warning labels on cigarette packaging isn't new, but this is the first time any country has put the labels directly on the cigarettes themselves, with advocates hoping it will help deter smoking further as people will see the warning as they light up.
As Sean Previl reports, it's part of the federal government's effort to get tobacco use below five per cent by 2035 and why some in the tobacco industry say it misses the mark.

Yeah, I recently went to Mexico, asked a few smoker friends if they wanted me to buy at duty free for them, all said no because it's even cheaper to buy the reserve brands.

That’s awesome! I hope it deters people and they can get help. I had an uncle that died of lung cancer due to smoking. It’s so sad cause I think he would have been there for his kids wedding and to see his grandkids.

May not be the best choice, but in moderation, not as bad. Lesser of evils like coffee compared to all the illegal stuff that gets you high or dead. Don't reccomend it to everyone..kids should stay away from making such choices till they are adults..but can't stop them all, seems they either get creative or are enabled... Eventually one has to take charge of their own lives, health..going full athoritarian on them or adults only encourages rebellion.

Was used for many reasons including medicinal. " "Extra additives" were put in including asbestos filters which did not help matters. Not exactly the healthiest choice on its own when used in excess..but here we are once again as it has been historically amidst prohabition era buisness tactics and what the current thing is.. outright banning and punishment will lead to black markets and criminal enterprises driven by risk incentives to circumvent your bans and fines. Not to mention you can easily grow your own cultivars for very cheap. A complete ban on alcohol created criminal networks and speak easy bars. I'd imagine a ban on tobacco will do much the same. Just as illegal pot did the same.

banning and fining use would result in a propped up illegal black market trade only profitable by gangs and criminal enterprise. Not to mention you can easily grow your own cultivars. 🤣 people are still naive enough they can ban everything? it's best kept in a regulated environment, where the pressure of how unhealthy it can be, will push free markets to develop healthier alternatives. 👍 or alternatively for the industry to stagnate and diminish.
