When you’re purchasing an item, what method of payment do you use? If cash wasn’t your first answer, you’re not alone. In fact, Canada is one of the leading countries in the world going cashless -- opting for mobile and digital payments because of the speed, ease and convenience.
Experts worry digital transactions don't benefit everyone, including the most vulnerable; and cash is still king for some businesses - and for those concerned about security.
For The New Reality, Anne Gaviola looks the potential costs of switching to a cashless world.

Once every few years here in B.C the bank, ATM machines, and even internet will shut down. When this happens a lot of people start to go crazy or think it's the end of the world but us with cash money just go about our life as usual. It's going to happen again. Cash money is needed, even if they want to get rid of it and try to control and trace every single thing we do, it won't work.

Who is the "THEY" that wants to get rid of it??? You're another paranoid conspiracy freak who troll these kinds of videos to spew your nonsense. Honestly, I stopped using cash because I was tired of fighting for correct change from cashiers who can't make a dollar with 4 quarters. Not everyone, but it was becoming more and more common where I'd be missing change and had to wait around, show receipts, even wait for security camera footage when I was missing $50 of my $52 odd change. And when my credit card got compromised, Visa was already investigating the charge before I could report it.

So true. I am 52 so long time ago at 15 when I was a cashier for the first time, my mom told me to count up to make change. Person gives you a dollar for a 25 cent item, count up to the dollar. Of course I was taught to count change as a toddler, save my change in a piggy bank etc…things have changed. Don’t get me started on kids also not being able to tell the time on an analog clock. My husband and I still keep some cash on hand because a year ago when the power was out for a few days, you could not even buy a coffee with credit.

I still use cash so I hope not. One of the reasons we overspend is due to convenience. I agree with the cash only places, it saves money for them. Cashless would mean having to keep paying high account fees to get multiple or unlimited transactions to banks. Using credit cards for everything can very easily get anyone into a debt trap. Also moving towards a cashless errs will be a problem considering the governments are brining in social credit scoring on top of the fico system. Credit is a tool in the right hands. I pay fees on the card I use because they provide perks and insurance and I use the perks regularly. Credit allows me to control WHEN I spend the money. If we go cashless the only way to do so will be to fallow Sweden’s playbook which they will then add a Negative interest rate which was discussed in the House of Commons and BoC. This would then Promote spending and make it more expensive for you to sit on money. But your assets would end up paying themselves off so your home you bought at 500K with a negative interest rate you would end up paying less in the end. This still won’t solve our housing and poverty crisis they would likely also have to implement the UBI which the bill was passed already now if it’s implemented that’s different:

It's the same with every technological advancement and convenience. The holdouts on cellphones now can't cross the street without texting on one. One issue not mentioned is the security of not having cash to be stolen or lost. If I drop a wallet full of cash the bank isn't protecting me but if my credit card is covered in that situation.

Every time we use our cards, we could get frauded because of skimmers and other gadgets that grab our data. Using cash means you have less to worry about. I put a certain amount in an envelopepe once a week for groceries, Dollarama, and extras and I can figure out why I'm out before it's time, which helps to budget. YOu can see how much cash you have left in your envelope and you just spend less because you know it needs to last longer.

Cash is just simple also you don't overpay like skip the dishes or Uber Eats and all this useless crap using online banking and tap is unreliable all it takes is someone stealing your card and you're done for an online banking can be hacked or they just take your money as simple as that Canada just should steer as far away from this as possible
