A fast-spreading wildfire in northern California has engulfed over 2,000 acres, driven by dry conditions and high winds. The blaze, known as the Thompson wildfire, originally started in a sparsely populated area but has since advanced towards the town of Oroville, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency in Butte County on Wednesday to support the response to the Thompson Fire.
"It's one of many fires we've seen in one of the most active fire seasons we've had in years," Newsom said.
Evacuation orders have expanded to include East Oroville and other unincorporated communities as the fire continues to pose a serious threat to homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.
Firefighters from across the state have been mobilized to combat the blaze, as authorities work to determine the cause. Residents are being urged to comply with evacuation orders and stay informed through official channels as the situation unfolds.

everyone on alert, 100 degrees out in northern calif. have been thru wildfires & it is sickening. Losing your animals often the saddest part, when you can't evacuate them. Lots of excellent fire fighters risking their lives to save homes & people. Have a plan, keep your get out bag at front door or in car.

So, basically they’ve learned nothing and did nothing to prepare for a fire season.

What is being said seems very clear to me. The Calfire website is much improved. I hope they get the fire out soon while there are still relatively more firefighters available. I helped fight a fire in Stilson Canyon east of Chico during the 4th of July holiday in 1984. It was 114 degrees, and we were in the poison oak belt. Luckily, the fire was contained so that it didn't become a large fire.
