In Pemberton, British Columbia, Grizzly bears are making regular visits to farmland properties - travelling into areas they have traditionally not seen before or have seen for decades.
The visits are amassing concerns from locals and triggering many to develop a plan to keep them away before hibernation season ends in early 2024.
Global’s Paul Johnson reports on the complicated issue that seems to have no simple solution.

Some of you do NOT belong outside of a city. Citiots area huge problem in the "wilderness", as they lack the sense that is needed to understand the wild, and the wildlife. Most animal/people incidents happen due to ignorance, and lack of education about these animals... bears, moose, elk, bison... these are the largest creatures we have on land in Canada. They are also the most dangerous next to man, especially when those humans want to get that close up, the all desired selfish, of them close to one of these magnificent beasts. I firmly believe that you should have to pass an animal safety and awareness exam prior to being allowed into the national parks.. but that is just me.

@@wildwolfzonerwolfe6966 it's not offensive, just incorrect. Things are native to where ever you find them. Some animals migrate all over the planet and never settle. Other migrate all over the planet and do settle. When they settle and cause more damage than they do benefit, we call them invasive. Humans are a global creature because we have adapted to live in pretty much every zone. But I do agree that people should do the best we can to deter dangerous wild life, as you said.

BC has a healthy population of both grizzlies and black bears. What actually needs to be done is ensure that the unglued population comes into balance because those predators have to eat. The horrendous wildfire season destroyed a lot of habitat for all wildlife, driving animals into populated areas. Human safety is a valid concern. The situation is a lot more complex than just telling people to leave the bears alone.

You need both Kanin packs and bears to balance each other in the wild, all ecosystems world wide have animal roles in them. Where are the wolves brown bears black bear and mountain lions to compete and space each other out? Why are you doing nothing to attract dear and help them flourish by planting things? Every solution is killing and burning, and gardening is just a silly past time apparently. These idiots will never learn. Things eat things, balance it out or nature will. People driving skunks out of their yards cause they have dogs, the skunks are there to spray bears and coyotes. One think I love about skunks, they space out raccoons and possums and large predators without fighting clawing biting no infected wounds to spread disease just spacing out to go for food opportunities in a more spread out pattern. Tourists want the trees without the compost their trees are weak diseased and can't survive their own climate. People drive away pooping birds and critters digging holes then their property fills with thistles(holes were digging up thistle roots) and the worms and ants will eat too much dead wood on trees leaving none to protect the living wood. Bugs are bird food, every moth and caterpillar there is is bird food, many farmers still at war with birds and spending millions to be broke. People don't understand that everything is connected and has a role. Everything is food for something, take things away it all gets imbalanced and going on culling's for money is wasteful. BC is destroying its moth infested trees before the birds can get a go on it, which will only make the problem last and the forests die out. In my town bird population is stable unlike some parts of the province of Ontario, here you will see a tiny twig with tent caterpillars on it in nut and fruit trees and it never gets out of control no one notices it, because its constantly eaten by cardinals and dragon flies that get quite big here. Stop with the chemicals and culling's, grow forage hunt raise. I pray everyday that farmers plant hedgerows with the way the world is going cause if the farmers starve we all starve. Hedgerows will give them food firewood timber mushrooms trapping things to sell or even just supplying their own needs without changing the years invested production methods they have going on. They don't make enough money to live as a business model they have to become farmers again. tractors and chemicals is not farming. It does not understand the fundamental connections of soil life and us. This way they can still plant monocrop corn and soy or grazing cattle and still get lots of resources for themselves to survive economically an biologically. Famers are used to using kitchens as car repair shops and buying food from walmart, I sure hope there is a cultural shift happening with them. They are as vulnerable as most city dwellers and that is scary. These environmental groups need to stop harassing farmers and raise money for clearing their debts planting hedgerows and putting in ponds costs diggers and time farmers might not have but maybe always wanted to do. Some farmers only want money and political promises, those ones will monocrop and use chemicals into bankruptcy. Farmers in the world have survived collapses and live well, because they grow forage hunt and gather they don't strip the land for a cash crop leaving them nothing but what they can get from the banks to buy back from, water that is gone from the well money can't buy. Banks offer buyouts either way its sick. I pray for the farmers, that they are kept safe from the government.

"Boldly accessing farmland"??? Boldly accessing what was once, and will ALWAYS be their domain! The animals were here LONG before man. Before long there will be baiting by the farmers/ranchers, creating their own headaches/nightmares, and painting the bears as the "bad guys".

Ok. I guess we should abandon Vancouver, Victoria, all the other "domains" we have so egregiously taken from the bears and whatever other crowd it is politically agreeable to mention.... what a moronic statement.

Typical people. Invade wildlife space and complain when " animals travel in spaces they never have before " listen to yourself. Humans have moved into every area that is normal living space for these animals. Who the hell are we to complain and what makes us so entitled. Get a life. If you can't handle wildlife move to the damn city. Leave the animals alone.
