Health care and education are to receive some of the largest increases in a restrained Alberta budget.
Finance Minister Nate Horner says the 4.4 per cent increase in the Health department’s budget is to be focused on improving access to doctors and reducing wait times in emergency departments, operating rooms and labs.
But a long-planned hospital for south Edmonton is halted, and there’s no date to begin construction on a stand-alone children’s hospital in the provincial capital.
Education will receive a similar increase, most of which is to be devoted to hiring new teachers and educational assistants.
Horner says a tax cut for lower-income Albertans that the United Conservatives promised during last year’s provincial election will be put off for two years.
Overall, the budget predicts a 3.9 per cent increase in operating expenses.

Speaking with forked tongue! Health they say is important but their systems like AISH deny it even if life threatening. AISH has published rules and procedures but even if you meet their own guidelines they then add new unpublished made up rules to deny healthcare.

In the video outlining the budget they've mentioned a labor shortage. If you fast track "permanent resident" status for 30,000 Ukranians who came to Alberta you'll have a good work force boost and trust me they don't want to be Uber drivers!

Budget 2012 follows through on the Premier’s commitments to Albertans by investing in their priorities while returning to a balanced budget in 2013-14 -without raising tax rates. Managing Alberta’s budget is about more than just money or the bottom line. It’s about ensuring that this government is supporting the outcomes Albertans want for themselves and their families, and for their province, over the long term. This budget invests in people, communities, the province’s economic future and the environment. With the Alberta economy gaining strength and a return to surpluses expected next year, now is the time to take a first step toward a long-term vision for Alberta that keeps us on track to realizing our full potential as a province. Budget 2012 provides a strong foundation to undertake this work. Thousands of Albertans shared their thoughts on Budget 2012 through an online survey, submissions directly to government and during community roundtable meetings held across the province.

BC government is 6 billion in dept. Back in 2021, we had a surplus of 1.2 billion. Where did all the money go? NDP.

2010 budget speech Alberta’s heritage is one of strong families and strong communities; of independence and self-reliance, but also a spirit of caring for our neighbours. We value our past and provide for our future. We respect and support those generations that built Alberta. And we are proud to act as stewards of our natural and economic resources, responsible for passing on to the next generation an Alberta that is as good as or better than the one we received. Budget 2010 is faithful to Alberta’s heritage. It protects services for the young and the elderly, the sick and the disabled. It protects our air, land, water and wildlife. And it keeps us on the path to prosperity, both present and future. Another part of Alberta’s heritage is the effect of the ups and downs of commodity markets on our resource-based economy. Too often, governments have responded by spending too much in good times, and cutting too much in bad times. Thanks to past fi scal prudence and accumulated savings, we do not have to make deep cuts to essential services. Over the last 16 years, Alberta paid down $23 billion in debt. And we saved nearly $25 billion, primarily in the Heritage Fund and the Sustainability Fund.

Additional fiscal initiatives include the establishment of a Financial Investment and Planning Commission to examine the government's long-term investment and savings strategies as well as the creation of the Alberta Investment Management Corporation to increase the opportunities for greater investment returns for the Heritage Fund, public sector pensions, endowments and other funds. An independent panel of experts is also reviewing the royalty regime to ensure Albertans are receiving their fair share from energy development through royalties, taxes and fees. The panel is expected to present its final report by August 31. The government's goal is to ensure the royalty framework strikes the right balance between providing Albertans with a fair return and maintaining an internationally competitive system that allows the Alberta economy to continue to prosper. Taxes Income tax changes outlined in Budget 2007 will save Albertans nearly $200 million annually and save businesses about $22 million in 2007.

Budget 2007 will provide $33 billion for programs and capital grants in 2007-08 to meet the needs of an economy that grew by 6.9 per cent last year and a population that increased by 100,000 people. "The government recognizes that we can't maintain the present pace of operating funding increases," said Dr. Lyle Oberg, Minister of Finance. "Funding for operating expenses and capital must be sustainable and fiscally responsible, if Alberta is to maintain its future prosperity." Operating spending will increase 10 per cent overall, including increases for health care and advanced education. This will alleviate pressure on core service delivery and allow the Alberta government to move forward on important issues such as the environment, policing and children's services. The three-year Capital Plan will provide $18.2 billion for municipal infrastructure, schools, roads, health facilities, post-secondary institutions, housing, water infrastructure, and a new two-year grant program to upgrade and construct community facilities.

budget 2012 continued ,does any of this sound familiar same old same old Albertans were clear on what they care about: health, education, jobs, services for seniors and the vulnerable, infrastructure, and their children’s future. Balancing the budget remains a priority, but not at the expense of key services. Ultimately, Albertans want their government to do its part to help them reach their full potential. This budget is the start of what we want to accomplish for Albertans over the next three years, and what we should strive to achieve over the next 10 years. It is about tangible results that matter to Albertans in priority areas that are important to them: G Investing in families and communities G Securing Alberta’s economic future G Advancing world-leading resource stewardship Specifically, it’s about increasing access to primary health care by introducing family care clinics, continuing investments in education and important infrastructure, supporting the most vulnerable, securing Alberta’s economic future, maintaining a competitive tax regime and improved environmental monitoring during and after development
